In case anyone is wondering, the game is already updated to v1.2.1.2 So don't try installing older patches as they wont work. Just install v1.2.3.0 onwards.
first update 1.1.9.8 giving me a hash sum error. Looks like the update doesn't work, at least not for me. It says the update is designed for Sunless Skies CODEX, but this game page is for Sunless Skies WAYFARER CODEX. So that must be it.
Overall i like this game better than Sunless Seas. The pacing is more forgiving, the world is larger, the atmosphere is slightly less scary (OK, maybe this is subjectively better for me) and the writing slightly less verbose. If you liked sunless sea, and don't mind more of the same in a different package, get this! If you haven't tried either, i'd recommend starting with this one.
You're right, it is subjective. :) Sorry I didn't put "in my opinion" or something after "the writing is fantastic"? I don't understand the point of your nitpick. I also like Sunless Skies a lot better than Seas. I haven't played Fallen London, I've been meaning to but it's always hard for me to get into browser games.
