Feels weird to comment on a game 8 years after its release. But hey, I didn't know about it until I decided to play "Fae Tactics" only to realize it had a prequel ... in a different genre! So, I came back and played Valdis Story. Halfway through the game I couldn't believe that I have found a Metroidvania that might actually be better than Hollow Knight ... Is it even possible? Or is it simply blasphemy? But, as I finished the game, I think this game is a 9 if Hollow Knight is a 10, so my feelings toward it are a bit adjusted now. It is a fantastic game regardless. Although there are a few very old-school mechanics in the game there are consciously and smartly designed so you may actually like them. If I may make a tiny suggestion; even if you are well-versed in the Metroidvania genre, I recommend you start with the 'Normal Difficulty'. Don't do what I did. Starting on harder difficulties right off the bat might turn you off, especially if you get frustrated easily. Overall, if you haven't played this yet, you are missing out.
Valdis Story: Abyssal City IS THE BEST METROIDVANIDA! This game is an ABSOLUTE HOLLOW KNIGHT KILLER! Take my words and play this game. You will wish for a sequel after finishing this game.
