MOTO RACER 1/2 > MOTO RACER 4
lol 0 comments...?
And on Steam, I see only 47 reviews, and a lot of them are very negative...
I feel bad for this developer.😥
Because Moto Racer was such a great popular series in the 90s....
I still have the first two games (from GOG), which are still quite fun today.
Especially the motocross tracks in Moto Racer 2.
I have great memories especially in the jungle levels...
I highly recommend them.

(btw, there'll be no mention of Moto Racer 3, because I never tried it. Yeah I know it's weird. lol)
SHADERS DON'T MAKE BETTER GAMES
It's funny...
Back in 1998, games didn't have shaders and all of these features that made 3D games realistic... And yet, why do I find the graphics of Moto Racer 1/2 actually more pleasant than Moto Racer 4? lol
I guess the main reason is that each level had a "soul", an unique style that made it memorable.
Strangely, despite the fact that I can see obviously that developers tried hard, it's not the case in MR4.
Also, like many modern games, I feel like there are so many of these "special effects" that we don't see the track as clearly as we did in the previous games.
MR1 and MR2 had a very simple style with gorgeous colors, and it worked perfectly.
MR4 looks often like a mess and it's very easy to make mistakes and not know where to turn, so make sure to learn every track by heart.
Some tracks do have gorgeous colors though, especially the DLC, which improves the original game look drastically.
(I love the DLC Antique Antics, personally.😍)
#$@&%*! CONTROLS
What ultimately kills this game for good is the controls.
Actually, I'm not sure what is going on under the hood here, but...
It's just excruciatingly frustrating.(is that a word? well now, thanks to this game, it is. lol)
I feel like there's a huge input lag and everything controls horribly.
You push just a bit to the left or right and the bike makes a HUGE turn or slides...
I tried with both keyboard and Logitech F310 gamepad, and despite some calibration, it still feels horrible anyway.
When you used the turbo, the bike is totally uncontrollable.
It was a bit difficult in the previous games, but still doable.
Also, there's such a thing as TOO MUCH arcade.
Actually, this game does feel like it tries to emulate some physics.
But from what planet? I'm not sure.
RUBBERBAND IS FOR USSOP, NOT RACING GAMES(get that lame joke? wink wink)
To make the whole experience even worse, the developers had the bright idea of using "rubberband A.I."... Don't know what this is?
Here's a perfect description of rubberband A.I. =>
Rubber band AI refers to a feature of artificial intelligence found in
racing titles that is designed to prevent players from getting too far
ahead of computer-controlled opponents.
When done well, such AIs can maintain a consistent level of challenge from the beginning of an event to the end.
However, when done poorly, it becomes evident that the game
is bending its own rules in the computer's favour, either by temporarily
enhancing the CPU's abilities, such as by making a CPU character drive
at a faster speed than their vehicle is supposedly capable of going, or
by inhibiting the abilities of the player(s)'s vehicle, or both.
The term is derived from the metaphor of a rubber band connecting the
player's car with an AI-controlled car; no matter how well the player
performs, they cannot leave the computer players behind, because the
rubber band will tighten again after being stretched, pulling the
computer vehicle back up to the player.
It reminds me of Fuel, the only other game in which I experienced that abomination. (I'm reading that such A.I. is used in some Mario Kart games, but I guess it was much better balanced because I never noticed it.)
I could forgive Fuel cos it had a great open world with freeroam mode, multiplayer, great graphics and optimization... This game has none of this.
Fuel was released by Codemasters in 2009... And in 2018, there's still nothing as fun if you want to ride bikes, quads, buggies, etc in a huge open world =>

SOUNDING GOOD LIKE A FLASH GAME
Sound is awful.
Can't comment on the music as I refused to listen to it. lol
But why does the engine sound like the rpm goes down when you're accelerating to the max speed? I'm not sure I've ever heard something that unrealistic before...
OPTIMIZATION? WHERE WE'RE GOING, WE DON'T NEED OPTIMIZATION
Even when I tried to disable as many effects as possible, reducing shadows quality, etc, I never got stable 60fps.
Overall, it was very "choppy", I got lots of freezes, and it was nearly unplayable.
My PC is old but good enough to run recent racing games like Assetto Corsa so I think the problem comes more from the game than from my tower. 😜
NO MORE DENUVO
Oh hey, we finally find something positive about this game=>

Moto Racer 3 was literal trash.

I will try this one now after 2 decades, I saw some videos they included wheelies. So I'm content right now.
