Oh boy...
There is SO much good and also... so much wrong with this game...
I really like the colorful graphics, a nice change from all the usual dark and apocalyptic shmups.
Althought I would have appreciated a crt filter or something to make the screen smoother, cos the pixel art in this game kinda looks "harsh".
You'll understand when you see it moving on your screen. lol
Overall, it looks like a Megadrive or Super Nes game, which is very good in my book.👍
And even when they're randomly generated, the boss designs are some of the best I've seen in a shmup, which is strange. lol
I thought the music was going to be cool, but then it ended up being a bit underwhelming. No memorable melodies... Nothing annoying either though.
Sound effects are bad. Like, real bad.
Weapons don't seem to have the appropriate sounds, and bosses make the weirdest sounds I've heard in a shmup... Broken and metallic...
I didn't play that long, but apparently, you fight only bosses, not regular levels filled with enemies like in most shmups.
That's the first real disappointment, but alright... Moving on.
The game start with a long tutorial, in a VERY confusing interface, which seems to make things so complex, that at some point, I thought I might as well play a RPG, if I want that much customization and stuff...
I'm exaggerating a bit, but I always disagreed with such gameplay "mixes" decisions, cos it totally breaks the pace of the game...
I would be interested to know what you guys think about it, but I want my shmup games to have shooting ONLY. And I want my turn-based RPGs to be slow-paced and make think, and not have QTE scenes (god forbids lol).
But when a shmup has very long pauses between levels cos you have to think about what character to use, how to customize his weapons, and you have to read the boss stats, etc, it just breaks the pace...
Imagine playing the Metal Slug games, which would have very long dialogues between every level, for example... That would totally destroy the game "action" feeling... lol
Well, just an example, but... In one hour, I had to read during 40 minutes, and played only 20 minutes. Something's wrong with this picture... lol
Speaking of shmups, I felt like this game had NO patterns at all, like Cave games, for example...
The bullets just appear randomly and don't seem to follow any kind of pattern, and as a result, it becomes extremely boring...
It might seem surprising, cos you would think that using patterns would be more boring, since you can learn them and eventually get used to it.
But that is EXACTLY what most shmups lovers want to do!
Here, you'll never really learn any patterns, and you'll just move your character frenetically on the screen, avoiding random bullets and enemies.
(the bosses do throw at you infinitely respawning enemies)
All of these nice graphics, with such shallow gameplay... What a waste...
I shot like crazy at a very cool looking boss I "created", and I noticed there were almost no visual effects which showed if I was progressing or something...
In most shmups, bosses change shapes, patterns, colors, etc.
Here, nothing.
Eventually, after a LONG time, I got "timed out"...
My bullets weren't powerful enough, I guess... (I did destroy his shell though...)
It wasn't even considered a "draw" by the game, but a defeat... Well ok...
It felt infuriating, and a very bad UN-accomplishment feeling...(is that even a word? lol)
It felt like I just wasted 15 minutes, shooting for nothing...
Ok, trying the "infinite boss" mode now, cos I like to suffer...
Edit: alright, the infinite boss mode is actually MUCH better than the regular mode, or whatever it's called...
You just fight boss after boss and can finally enjoy the gameplay!
Why? Because, like a more REGULAR shmup, you get powerups and different weapons dropping during the level, and it makes the bosses beatable way faster, and then you progress and advance in different levels, etc.
There's way more variation and a richer gameplay overall in this mode...
(isn't it weird? This mode looks like just an "extra" mode in the game, and I expected something very simple and shallow... It's the opposite... It's the "campaign" mode which I found boring...)
Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that the shooting part is very underwhelming, with all the weapons which seem to have no different effect whatsoever... It demotivates you to pick more weapons to try them out... lol
(Not the best comparison, but remember the weapons in the Metal Slug games?
All of them had very different effects on enemies, and also landscapes sometimes)
Also, one of the key features of this game is also one of its biggest problem:
The randomly generated bosses. (or are they? Anyway, they seem different all the time, with different parts and stuff)
Why? Cos you can't predict their attacks at all.
The last boss who killed me just shot a MASSIVE laser beam, which took 90% of the screen... How was I supposed to avoid this??
Alright, I realize that some people might actually love this, and now they want to play the game just to see this giant laser beam. lol
But not for me, no thanks!
Well, good luck with it, I played only an hour and a half, but it's enough for me!😜
It's not a very bad game though.
It's just that I'm spoiled by the greatest shmups, and this one doesn't even compare...

lol why are there always guys like you? Yesterday, somebody told me that he was actually very glad to read comments like mine, because it's also interesting to share our opinions here. There are no rules about this, actually. Don't be so close-minded.
It would be good if even more people shared their opinions, actually.
