Wasted potential.
I love how we can customize the ships.
All variations look good and most ships I came up with looked like one of the good old Raiden or Thunder Force games.
I tried only two ships, which had different gameplay, but didn't feel as satisfying as the big names out there.
Music is GREAT. It might be what I like the most about the game.
Problem comes from level design.
First, all levels look almost exactly the same. There are a few variations in the background, and that's it. And the same goes for enemies. Booooriiiing...
Secondly, and that's much more serious for a shmup, colors are wrong.
#1 golden rule for a shmup : use opposite colors which allows for easy distinction of enemy bullets and the backgrounds.
But in this game, many enemy bullets use warm tones, so as the backgrounds.
Edit : oh yeah, also, in many levels/areas, the backgrounds are too bright.
Bad idea...
Go see CAVE shmups - like all the Dodonpachi games - to see how it's done perfectly.
Not saying that the game is particularly hard because of this though.
I completed most levels easily without losing a life, on normal difficulty setting.
But I'm just saying that the colors "code" doesn't make the experience too enjoyable. And level design is extremely boring.
If you're really hungry for new shmups, you'll like it though. It's not that bad.
lol... As usual, I'm the only one to think this way though, and so far ALL reviews on Steam are highly positive. 😅
As for me, the only shmup I'm waiting for is Raiden V =>
