First time I play one of these "Steamworld" games. This one seems to be the most "advanced", right? Characters are ugly and unlovable. Steampunk robots, whatever, not my style... Using "normal" humans would have been great, I think... The backgrounds, on the other hand, especially when you're underground, are GORGEOUS. So far, all I've seen felt like a very cozy atmosphere, and you actually feel "good" underground, which is quite rare in games... lol I wouldn't have minded pixel art like Terraria. I bet it would have suited this genre very well. Speaking of which... Isn't this game a bit like Terraria minus the building part? (again, it's my first time, so excuse my noobness...lol) Also, it has less replay value cos apparently, there's no procedural generation, right? So each new game will be the same, I assume?... Other than that, it IS addictive and you do want to dig further all the time to unlock things, get cogs, gold, etc. This part might be even better than Terraria cos you focus on this only and you always know what to do exactly, thanks to the arrows and intuitive UI. It's much more simple therefore more relaxing as well. I have lots of fun looking for secret paths especially. I turned the music off. It's not bad, but nothing special, and it just feels better when I select my own music. Sound effects do the job and are not annoying, which is important in a game in which you'll hear digging sounds during hours... lol So it's like a mix of Super Metroid and Terraria, with way less fighting, no building, but going back and forth in immense underground worlds with nice graphics (so far, it seems quite big to me, but I don't know how long the game will be), and an addictive advancing system which will make you want to find always more, more, MORE! 😄👍 Edit : Since I'm new to this game, tell me, do I need to play the previous games too, or they're just more or less the same, but worst?
Im not sure, i feel like this game is more for people who played motherload flash game when they were younger(or out little of my time, you enjoyed games like dig dug) and wanted more. I got the first game on my 3ds, while im with you, i probably wont replay it anytime soon if ever, but it was fun albiet short. This while i havent played yet, has me wondering what power ups and upgrades i will get, but i feel it will be just as short as the first, maybe takeing 2-3 gamging sessions to beat. The first game has little story other than you talk to the towns people and get upgrades and they chat back. But I dont feel like you would have missed anything other than the experience of playing it.
FUCK YEAH. i was all like "aw man, the switch got it early, and well have to wait like a fuckin year for it to come to pc" but nope! its here, its good its dandy, gonna stay up all night today and gonna mess up my sleep patern very very bad.
to anyone with this problem, start the game, and on the main screen if you dont see the fire animated and just the background, close it and open it again. dont know why, but you just close it and when you boot it back up the "missing" stuff (fire, arrows, dust when you break something) is back, dont know what causes it dont know how to fix it.
pretty enjoyable nonetheless

I actually downloaded the first Steamworld for 3DS (I think it works well on Citra emulator) so maybe I'll give it a try.
