My apologies, I finally gave a long try to this game. And frankly, it's terrible. I'm a very nostalgic person, but the people defending this one are completely blind.
Meh. I understand why this game divide people after finally giving it a try. Everything has already has been said in previous comments. I think you'll have way more fun reinstalling Quake 1 and using Arcane Dimensions map pack. ๐
*reads balthor's comments and then reads about him saying "Learn to give criticism instead of cryin..." * Hey,Balthor NPC,how's the tavern in the MMORPG you're from? XD Obviously you came here drunk as f*ck wreaking the party.
mentions brutal doom/project brutality as a reference for oldschool unironically Yup I'm out of here :S Seriously though, BDLite is miles ahead of the actual Brutal Doom and PB, I recommend it. It keeps the fast paced gameplay and removes the useless crap (aiming down sight except for a single exception I believe, better, more fun and less intrusive gore, better compatibility with extra mods and so on)
i watch him, icarus and gmanlives but i no longer play those mods that you mentioned Complex doom was good before getting ruined with LCA and clusterfuck mods D4T is meh Russian overkill its very old almost no one play this anymore i only play Project brutality because its the most recent updated mod and much better improved than the overrated boring brutal doom crap
The picture doesn't say it's early-access; nothing in the post does, so it can be confusing and irritating when people try it and find it only has two levels.
To think about what? ๐คจ If you meant "to think that", then you'd have to be incredibly stupid to think that. ๐ As I said, there was nothing in the post to indicate that it was early-access. (There still isn't; maybe because it's been released since then or something, I wouldn't know, I haven't tried it yet and am not inclined to at the moment.)
This game is... actually kind of shitty. It's soooo close to being good, but it has some very severe issues. For starters, the mouse movement is BROKEN. Sensitivity is either super high or super low (using the lowest and the second lowest setting), I had to go out of my way and adjust my mouse's base sensitivity to be able to play. This is nothing compared to the main problem: the mouse randomly spins to the sides super fast, fucking you over, disorientating you, and making the game hard to enjoy as it happens completely at random. Player movement is also shitty. It feels way too slippery, and your character either trips over, grinds to a halt, or yeets into the air when it collides with certain objects and obstacles in the levels. This already turns the game into a painful mess, but the issues keep piling on. There's random freezes, and very frequent freezes whenever you open your Artifact menu or save the game. Enemy placement is often a pain in the ass, you'll find the game often spawns enemies behind you (this gets worse after the first level), puts floating enemies somewhere way above where you're looking so they always get a free shot off at you, and it loves putting enemies around random corners, worst ones being the exploding ones that can level your entire health & armor pool down to a miserable value. The whole game feels strangely unbalanced, with some weapons like the coachgun being immediately useless as soon as you get anything else, a weird mix of having too much ammo in one section and none in another, very inconsistent enemy damage and health, etc. It feels as if they didn't playtest or polish the game at all, so there's a lot of decent or good stuff that is severely marred by some pretty dumb errors and decisions. Maybe it'll get some updates, particularly a fix to the shitty mouse issues as the game is close to unplayable with those.
You're being quite critical about technical aspects to an in development game acting as if its complete. The developers arent going to see your criticism so quit acting so high and mighty, if you think the game has issues tweet the devs the problems you have and see if they get fixed when the game gets its formal launch
I feel like people who defend this game blindly have never played 90s fps, I don't see how they can say it feels good. The movement is completely broken and slippery, as you say. It feels very bad. That and the absence of quicksave made me uninstall it pretty quick.
Yeah... It's a pity, because the visuals are pretty great, some cool enemy designs and overall atmosphere. But with such a broken movement system and many other flaws (some guns are simply useless once you get better ones ten minutes later), it's very hard to enjoy it.
Learn to take criticism to games you like and not be a fuckwit. My system's way above what this game requires and I don't have any issues with any of the many more demanding and technically complex games I play.
The mouse problems you explained can be fixed with a bit of tweaking, I had same problems too at first but managed to set them right to the point I was 180 flick shotting enemies to death. Player movement is from the quake engine, which is what the game is based on. It's a lot different than other games and it takes time to get used to. I never had issues with random freezes, only time game froze for me was whenever I saved, other than that it was fine. I don't see how enemy placement is a pain in the ass, the enemies that spawn behind you are those weak runners which are really easy to deal with. They spooked the living shit out of me at first. The first level is super easy, the fact you're complaining about it being ass just means you're a noob. The exploding enemies are the ones that lob stuff at you from a distance, they also don't charge at you but will explode if you're aren't paying attention and just run into them. I'll agree the game isn't near to being perfect, but the problems you explained aren't really problems at all, merely just you being bad at video games.
Bitch, I have no problems with the difficulty, like I told the other idiot who made a reply assuming I'm "bad". I've been playing fast-paced FPS since I was a kid. The movement is BAD, straight up; it doesn't work like it SHOULD, take any other quake engine based game and tell me if it has half as many issues with getting stuck or launched off of obstacles. The enemy placement is just annoying, and their shallow attempt at "difficulty". I'm not complaining about the game actually being hard, it simply isn't.
I've been playing Doom, Quake, Dark Forces, and basically any FPS that I could get my hands on since I was little. I won't claim I'm a pro, but I'm pretty damned good at them. This game gave me no issues with difficulty; it's just a pain in the ass to play because it doesn't work well.
"I've been playing Doom, Quake, Dark Forces" And yet you complain about the movement. I can understand about the level design but why expect different movement from the quake engine?
It's a Quake engine game, but that doesn't mean it's Quake 1. Do you want Quake 1 movement? you play Quake 1. Jesus, what bunch of overreacting fools bitching about a game that it's not finished yet.
I'm sorry but complain about the movement feeling "way too slippery" on the Quake Engine and telling people you played Quake and Dark Forces feels like bullshit to me.
The momentum your player carries in those games is very snappy; you don't slide off if you quickly move the opposite direction. In this game it feels like it takes too long for that to work; you slide more. None of those games, or ANY game that I can remember on a Quake or similar engine, have the issues with objects flinging you, stopping you dead in your tracks, and generally being a nuisance in a very inconsistent way. The mouse issues are also simply inexcusable, and no, they're not related to my system, my mouse or my settings, and neither should I be jumping through hoops to get it to work nor has that made it work.
You probably should read some of those reviews to get why Ion Fury has that user score before commenting. Spoilers: they are not even about the game, just people pissed because the devs censored some content
I don't care what review sites say tbh. Everybody has a different experience, and mine was great. Btw Ion Fury was no more repetitive than the old "classics".

An eon is a geologic term (the second longest); in order from longest to shortest: Super-Eon, Eon, Era, Period, Epoch. Aeon (not "an aeon") is just an archaic term for an indefinite, long period of time.
And frankly, it's terrible.
