It was obviously a Flatout2 clone but was missing all the fun stuff, like the rag dolls, memorable and interesting drivers, good music or those ridiculous events. It looked good on surface but there wasn't much under the hood that made it more than just an 'okay' experience.

But it's still a boring game that pales in comparison, even though it was developed by the "same" company. So in a sense it is still a clone.
I get what you're saying, though.
But it's kinda ironic because call of duty games are essentially clones, too.. heh
Get everything right the second time.
The first one was a technical prize.
But I think what held it back was the track design.
The tracks where boring.
Now that they've got the technical stuff out of the way,
focus on the fun factor.
Even more fantasy elements, maybe in its own game mode,
like building Road Warrior cars, could be a fine idea.
