Okay for the first hour, and then it is just repeat, and it grinds really slowly. Another "grind underground and defend above" game out there, games called "Dome Keeper" / "Drill Core" /" Ocean Keeper" are identical to this game. And a game like "Dig or Die" gives you more upgrades and creative freedom.
So far, I think only "Drill Core" is a bit of fun in this "grind underground and defend above" genre. Others are all garbage, maybe okay in mobile standard, but not up to par on PC
If I were the developer, I would rotate the game 90 degrees more and call it Australian Simulator and call it a day because this game is just that. I just think this genre is not that fun. Even in the early 2000s, similar games existed and were not very fun. You have to go all the way back to the GBA era to say, "Oh yeah, this game is kind of unique and interesting."
There's a game called Drill Core that is a bit more interesting because it has a little bit of a management aspect, like a super simplified Oxygen Not Included.

The reason why I liked dome keeper a bit more is because it keeps the loop and everything simplified and not annoying for the get go. It does good what it says it does.
A very cool game, it works really well as a sequel to the first part of the series. I don’t get what people are saying about grind—I’m buying several upgrades after just one mission and progressing easily. The story is also good for an Alawar game. After finishing it, I might even buy it on Steam out of respect for the developers, though not directly on Steam, but on third-party platforms like ggsel.net, since I don’t really want to spend too much money.

I knew this didn't improve in the fun loop department after the first game and glad i didn't waste my time installing it.

Dome Keeper and this are similar games and yet the fun aspect of Dome Keeper is way more.
