If I recall correctly, the in-universe explanation from the first game (or rather, visual novel) was that their boobs and butts grew while time travelling, and said armor was the only stuff that would expand correctly without ripping. Obviously it's fanservice, but I do recall there being an 'explanation' of sorts, at least for this game.
My my, the PLOT is pretty engaging indeed
