That's.... That's actually the first text game that I've played, where your character is not the main character of the game... Literally dies and get's harvested by the true MC, that I didn't give two shits about... Then I thought, maybe I'm doing this wrong, and on a second playthrough I named NOT main character "Dick, the dragon shlong", (cause "birthday boy" is already taken) thinking at least I'll get some shits and giggles out of it. Nope. It's never referenced in the game, so.... That was a waste of effort...
"It’s entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination." It's almost like... games were invented so you don't have to use your imagination...
Look if you don't like the text-based genre that is up to you. And on top of that if you think that text-based games, visual novels and CYOAs aren't actually games that is also up to you. I don't know who peed in your cereal to spend your time complaining on multiple games of the genre. If you really hate them so much and don't think them as games why even bother when clearly no one who is going to spend their time reading comments on some text-based game is going to agree on your views.
"A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a two- or three-dimensional video display device such as a touchscreen, virtual reality headset or monitor/TV set." A "choose your own adventure" game is still a video game
If scrolling through TV channels is what makes watching TV enjoyable to you, in a way I'd say yes But we both know it's not the case, no need to be of bad faith Video games are not made "so you don't have to use your imagination", just look at old games, some of them had just a few colors, no music, they were terrible looking, yet people enjoyed them because their imagination did half the work Now look at sandbox games like Minecraft, where 95% of the fun is created by the players Etc

male or female human, or as an ungendered turan; gay or straight?" Damned speciests..

Imo it's much more a "video game" than a visual novel with few to no choice for example
A "choose your own adventure" game is still a video game
