It is the message in crackwtch: As very little AAA games are being released right now, our advertising revenue is very low and we can no longer afford to pay for servers. Anybody know if it is true?. I think the lacks of AAA on IGG was caused because most AAA games were released for online games but apparently companies are getting sick of making AAA games.
Nah, it has nothing to do with the "lack of AAA" games. Unfortunately for Crackwatch, it's just an excuse. If anything there's been great growth in AAA industries in recent years, to the point that big multimedia companies like WB are now making more money off of their AAAs (even their offline games) than they do from other avenues, even more than movies. Crackwatch was always struggling in the financial department. They weren't sustainably selling ads/pop-ups and their traffic was huge. They were ranking around 6k~8k on Alexa which is crazy good for a website of their type. But it also means you need more money to maintain that traffic. Which goes to show, if you can't funnel your traffic into a product/purchase you are only losing money. If I'm not mistaken Crackwatch owners had to sell their domain to another team around a year back (because of money issues) and this is the new team that have run into the same issues. Hopefully their problems get resolved soon, but tbh I'm not too optimistic about it.
