Good times can be had when "Everything Old is New Again".

Anyone else remember the "Neo Geo" console? It could play the exact, same arcade games including the same graphics and music as in the arcade machines (In many cases, the console was the practically same system used inside an arcade machine cabinet, depending upon the arcade game)! It was the most expensive console back in the '90s and 2000s. Some are now calling the PlayStation 2 a "Poor man's Neo Geo"~!

I recall that it was actually retailing in electronics stores like "Incredible Universe" [Now defunct] for around $499.99 back in the '90s which is about the same as ~$1,199.49 in today's money (Wikipedia says that the MSRP price was $649.99 which is equivalent to $1,454 in 2023)! That console was priced higher than a PS5 when it was released! Damn!
😎👍

Samurai Shodown

For Sure. Oh yes, still love the look of arcade machines.
Fond, expensive(thousands of coins "well spended",hahaha) ,alot of fun memories been made in Arcade Halls. It was kinda second home(at least for short while) or a place to go for my friends and me back then.
NEO-GEO was/is just great.
But i cant remember why i never bought one(too expensive?).
Anyway,thx for sharing.🤗♥️

You're most welcome~!
😎👍

You and me, both. I also spent my Fridays, after High School was finished, at the local arcades playing games like Ms Pacman, Bosconian, Star Wars, Crazy Climber, Gauntlet (Co-op with three friends), TRON, Star Trek, ... etc and some modern pinball machines like "Medieval Madness". By the time late evening crept up, I was out of $5.00 worth of quarters (A lot back then with 1 play costing 1 quarter) and my wrists hurt from nearly having Carpal Tunnel Syndrome! Still, I had a good time as a teenager~!
😀

Well, at $500 back then for a console, the Neo Geo was too expensive for me. Perhaps it was also so for you?
😐❓

Yes i guess too expensive was the reason.
Most of the games you mentioned.was our thing, too.
I remember Star Wars a cockpit-like arcade, damn was that fun.
Gauntlet, crazy fun,and of course Fighting Games too.
Pinball was kinda not so varied at the local arcade we went,
but the owner at least swapped to newer models from time to time.I remember Addams Family and Terminator (2?) was
quite addictive for us,hahaha.
And happy me got,at least, the
PC versions of them(Pinball) from...here ,yeah♥️🤗😎👍

Am an 70's kid. Got my Neo Geo back in the late 80's and still use it now and then. No shit it was the ONLY console that could play arcade games at the time. Games were pretty hefty back then as well or $60 to $100+ each. Most times had to buy Neo games used as $100 bucks was a lot back then.

No MAME back then either.

Pretty much all of my consoles are still working. Jaguar, Atari, every Sega from Genesis to Dreamcast, play station s 1-5, Wii, Nintendo etc. Never bought handhelds like gameboys etc. Still got my IBM, Apple II and other old computers most are in storage. But my kids or young adults now are into electronics as well so its a family thing. Kept all the boxes, accessories and even game boxes.

Use torrents as demo's and buy a game if its good etc. But dang miss the days of games in a box with real ass manuals. Lots of my game boxes like the Neo Geo games are works of art imo. Now everything is just online. Hardly no import game shops anymore. If your old school you would know about modded consoles to play Japanese imports. Hell way too much to list of how gaming was so much cooler back then.

Yeah, I knew about the "mod chips" for the PS2 and XBox consoles back then.

Oh, so you're a console game collector - I wasn't deeply into collecting retail games due to their cost but I still have my "Final Fantasy VII" PC CD in its original jewel case inside of its original white, triangular shaped, cardboard box, my "The House of the Dead" PC CD with its original jewel case and rectangular box and my "Tomb Raider" PC CD in its original jewel case and triangular shaped, cardboard box. You should probably have your carts appraised by WATA. I know that there are a lot of crazy collectors who have piles of cash to pay for this new form of "modern art".
😉

Most of the import shops were either forceably shut down or failed due to lagging sales for import games. When Lik-Sang was legally closed down by Sony (See here), it pretty much was a sign of the beginning of the end of the import game stores.

Gotten my consolised MVS not too long ago, and gotten some MVS carts as collection. Can't beat the authentic stuff man. If I'm really up for it, I'll hook it up into my Vewlix cab for kicks.

AES carts tho... way too expensive at this day!

IMO, You're lucky to be able to own an MVS console and some MVS carts. Perhaps an AES (arcade machine system) may be the next step for you in the future!
😎👍

Wow, you're fortunate enough to be able to afford one of those fancy ~$3,000 Vewlix custom, arcade machine cabinets that puts the XArcade generic, arcade machine cabinet for MAME to shame? Also, you have spare space in the basement(?) of your house to operate it? Any of those huge, Vewlix monsters don't look like it would fit well inside of an two bedroom apartment, much less a one bedroom apartment (Forget about trying to fit it into a Studio apartment and still have some furniture like a couch and a bed and living space leftover)! LOL!
😮 😐❓ 😀

Whoops, neglected to check the messages, my bad.

Yeah, MVS console can be acquired via Aliexpress, and I bought my first MVS cart in Akihabara for cheap, which is KOF'99 for only 900 yen (a bargain!)

And the Vewlix I gotten is actually just a knockoff Chinese replica which is initially configured with a Pandora Box multi-game emulation system. But I overhauled it and set up my own pc system to play the newer arcade systems such as the Taito X3 or Sega Ring Edge

Damn! You put me to shame as I only have MAME installed on my PC for playing classic arcade games like Bosconian, Galaga, Crazy Climber, etc and vertical rail shooters like "Lethal Enforcers", "Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters", "Police Trainer" and "Terminator 2: Judgement Day". I've tried to get the FPV rail shooters "CarnEvil" and "The House of the Dead" to work properly but the ROM sets that I found aren't working according to MAME.

I want to get the Sinden light gun with recoil (See here) but at $159.99 it's too expensive for me, so I'll just play the "Waiting game" for now until, hopefully, the price drops. I also had thought about purchasing an X-Arcade joystick with the buit-in trackball but I don't currently play enough MAME games to justify that luxurious expense.
🥴 😉

If I had a house, I'd probably also add a pinball machine and a pool table along with an arcade machine in the basement! A small bar for enjoying snacks and drinks with friends and family would be nice as well~!

Capcom isn't involved here beyond licensing their characters. This game is devloped by Code Mystics and published by SNK

It is all good that they got rid of the heinous, scary, inappropriate, distracting, far to tittilizing, etc... side boobs but those men need the same treatment.

That might have something to do with Capcom as they were both developers and publishers of that one. This one on the other hand is not
