this looks familiar...or maybe i've just seen the characters in that title pic in porn is all. oh well, could be good, i guess. i'll give it a try and see. or maybe not...
This would be a GREAT game if only... The combat system wasn't the worse I have seen in my entire life. Anybody can explain to me what's happening there? Block doesn't work. Parry doesn't work. I just smash buttons like crazy in order to win any fight, it's utterly boring, and not even comparable to games like Tera, for example. I just don't get it. People say the combat system is great. Am I missing something here? I love everything else about this game.
Attacks in this game are slow and deliberate. You can't block or parry in mid-animation -- can't animation cancel. In other words, you can only block or parry while not in the middle of combo or in the middle of getting your ass kicked from the enemy's 10-string combo. Parrying requires timing and a bar from the tension gauge. MMOs aren't really a good example including Tera. That's just mashing your keys/skills/rotation and watching their pretty animations play out until the next skill and so on ad nauseam. In someone's opinion is sure to be "smash buttons like crazy in order to win any fight, it's utterly boring." Personally, I think it's alright. I've played for about six hours and reached the second chapter. I just can't stand not being able to do anything from enemy combo and just watch them beat me up until they finish. That's just not fun to me. It's like watching a highly skilled Street Fighter player combo the fuck out of a helpless newbie. Not sure if I want to continue with the game. I also still don't really understand the story. FYI: Spoiler alert, if you're wanting to play this game to the end you're going to have to learn how parrying works because the final boss of chapter one requires you to parry one to four times in a row in order to deal damage.
Oh great... I tried parrying a few times, but it seems that we have to press the button during a 1/10000s moment. (sorry, me bad English!) I read that some people have been asking the devs to implement an easy fighting mode for old people (over 30s lol) like me. I would appreciate the game much more if the combat was either complex and turn-based, OR extremely simplified, maybe even just a platformer. But not this "in-between"... This is what I feel overall about this game, which doesn't know what genre he is anyway. Yeah, the combos feel exactly like when I'm competing with some guys in fighting games like the latest Street Fighter. (not my style of game though) I just hate it. I don't understand why you say it's slow though. Unless I REALLY didn't understand anything about this horrible combat system. I push punch and kick buttons like crazy and tried a few combos I learned, and also I don't even have time to try magic cos the enemy is onto me right away, it's incredibly fast to me!! And like I said, you need lightning-fast reflexes to parry! When I play with the second character, the poor guy can't even cast his spells!!! what's up with that??? In Tera, I pushed only a few buttons and yeah, it's true that there are kinda slow animations but it helps me take time to use my fighting "strategy". (like with the archer) But here, it's impossible to have any kind of strategy. I'm willing to give it one last chance but I guess I'll uninstall it soon, it's just too infuriating for a person like me who likes to take time. Maybe I expected another kind of game. Oh yeah I reached some kind of beach, and there are enemies with big shields I can't hit at all... Their level is lower than me... And they destroy me in a matter of seconds... I have to say that I played games like Jagged Alliance 2 or Realms of Arkania so I'm not exactly supposed to die miserably in a stupid game like this... I just don't get this game. I think the gameplay is very badly designed.
I'm guessing you're talking about the green crab-like things with spikes all over them? They have a retaliation / counter attack buff on them. You can see the buff icon next to their head. They can only be hurt by shi/magic. If you attack them physically you'll just end up beating yourself up. I wouldn't blame you for quitting. Not all games are made for everyone. Besides, I'm assuming you've not paid for the game so at the very least you can say that you didn't waste money on a game you don't even like playing.
