That has nothing to do with the developer but with the guy who cracked the game. Somebody down below mentioned why it doesn't work for 64 Bit users, which I think you are running. I have the same problem. I already tried to request it again in x64 and mentioned it in the FAQ section, but as of right now I didn't get an answer.
I tried, the darksider.bin file is corrupted. (which is what Winrar says when I open it with him). I'm almost certain that the source of the problem is simply crack itself. At least we've tried a lot of solutions. EDIT: At the time, I told myself that Winrar was probably having trouble with BIN files, so I tried with software that can convert the BIN format to ISO (so I could mount it in a virtual drive). I tried a lot of software (WinIso, Winbin2iso, MagicIso ...) but nothing is done. Most of them do not support a conversion of more than 2GB. The only software that has advanced me the most is IsoBuster (which is a tool for recovering damaged or poorly engraved data). So I tried the BIN file, and it could only find half of the files present. I couldn't try an iso conversion because it's a paid function. But I think the file is indeed corrupted
OK, OK,,,I got one... This means massively hardware'd out PC cant't run this game to save your ass despite the mega bucks you spent. Right? Wrong? Maybe? Game On...
I've read your comment below and it seems like you know whats going on, but i'm not quite sure I understood your comment right. The .exe can't be installed on win64 bits, right? But it would work on 32 bit systems? Or is there something wrong with the .exe in general? I mean the crack folder is also empty so there seems to be a general problem, not only with the .exe, right?
The provided "Setup.exe" file in this case is written in 16 bit code. The move to 64 bit operating systems marked the beginning of the end with regard to being able to run 16 bit code (at least natively). Its a technical issue revolving primarily around address space. The backward support for 16 bit stuff was tossed by design with the implement of 64 bit OS. The necessary backward support was handled by what was known as the NTVDM. The NTVDM existed as a legacy component that one could choose to add throughout all 32 bit Windows versions. It was left out for good again, by design, with the jump to 64 bit Windows. "Yes", 32 bit Windows anything still has this Virtual DOS Machine available so "Yes", you should be able to install the game using any 32 bit Win Version since it will still have the necessary backward compatibility native to 32 bit systems. I have no reason to believe that the game's "Setup.exe" is broken, corrupted, or anything. Its just that 64 bit machines cannot execute that old code and hence we're screwed on being able to install the game. The games raw data is locked away in that "darsiders.bin" file and "Setup" is what gets it out, reassembles it, and places it in our chosen install dirctory. Maybe someone using 32 bit OS will install, then zip up a copy of the new created game directory so that we might be able to simply decompress on our 64 bit machines and run straight out of the directory. This assumes the game itself is a 32 bit app which im sure it most likely is. In the end its just that we can't (non-destructively) get the damn game files out of the .bin file, for not being able to run the provided 16 bit setup utility. These are the kind of setup apps that one used to see back in the early 90's. Thats weird because the game itself does not seem to be near as old as the technology used to create its setup routine. Frustrating... Brevity is not one of my strong points...I apologize for the long windedness. What can I say...its a weakness...
I tried to install it on a virtual machine (VMWare) under Windows 7 pro, and it doesn't work (error: invalid "win32" file). Did I forget a detail or was it just a theory on your part?
I could'nt say for sure. Its a fact that I have not personally tried to do anything else with this. You used a 32 bit version of Win7 right? Did you double check that the NTVDM was indeed available? Look for it in C:\Windows\System32. Its been a very long time since I've used win7 and I don't recall whether its just already there and available by default or has to be specifically added as a legacy component as would be the case in Win10 32 bit. If everything above checks out try the comaptibilty tab within the files properties. I'd try every choice just to rule out. Lastly, it may actually be that the setup.exe IS truly corrupted in some way...its just that the verbiage of the error message win10 x64 users get does'nt suggest corruption but more so incompatibilty. In the end I guess its always possible that its just one of those things that slipped through the cracks when prepared for posting on IGG. Curious though that the game's requirements say "64 bit OS only" yet this particular setup.exe was the one provided in the download. Maybe that was a screw up.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Its very weird because in the steam discussions no one mentioned not being able to run the game on 64 bits. Or did the crack group failed to make it running on a 64 bit system?
That would be because the problem is non-existent with a bought & paid for Steam copy of the game. The mandatory Steam Client installed on your PC IS the actual install mechanism for games you buy (legit) from them. The very same game one might download from IGG has had a particular crack group's custom installer additionally included in the download i.e. Plaza, Hoodlum, Codex, Darksiders, and others. By way of emulation, the crack files provided from these rather talented groups fool the game into thinking that it IS in fact running in Steam as expected. Not all the games on IGG were originally Steam titles but I'd probably suggest that most of them are. The problem in the case of S&G is simply that 64 bit users cannot execute this game's supplied setup.exe. Hence, right out of the starting gate we cannot even INSTALL the game. The game will run on 64 bit machine...IF ONLY we had a way to initially install it to even begin with. Its not the game itself we can't run. Its just the executable that adds the game to the PC's hardrive in the first place thats stopping 64 bit users short. BTW: Did you stroll about in the Steam Forums mentioning that you were having issues with your IGG version of S&G??? ...because that would be fucking hilarious.
Hm okay. That makes sense. And no, of course I didn't go into the steam discussions and asked about the IGG version not working on 64 bit systems :D I was just curious because if it would've been a problem with the game itself and not the crack behind it, it would be obvious that people would say "Doesn't work on Win64". Thats why I was 90% sure that it must've been an issue with the crack itself. Anyways, I guess everything is said at this point. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Its great to see people actually write things that make sense other than "Shitty game, won't install". :)
Experience this fact for yourself did ya dude??? Frustrating as hell is it not???...but ya called me a "dick" for saying so; intriguing... Its all right...ha, ha...we're cool...game on bro!!!
Wait, this isn't "Sex with a Gun"? Fuck! All I want is a simulator to put my dick inside a Beretta, come on! Don't bait and switch me with a shitty game! Hahahahahaha
OK...this is the comment I choose as an appropriate lead-in to bitch... NONE of us, who are running 64 bit Windows Anything, as the the effing game requirements dictate...which is MOST of us...will be trying out this game. Why?... The GD setup code is a 16 bit routine. Well how-bout that shit; Its like somebody did this on purpose just for a laugh because for all of this to be intentional (and honest) means that somebody has bumped their fucking head!!! It can't POSSIBLY work!!! The ONLY way 64bit users could POSSIBLY try this out would be to implement a 32bit Hyper-V OS cabable of supplying the NTVDM. Those worthy know what this means. Some of us here are a little smarter than the average bear and this kind of shit drives us nuts I.E. C:, Katsuma Prime, Lale Idiaoma and others who I'm sure know me, ECT., ECT., are just a couple of examples of those whom surely see through shit like this...why the fuck are you making me lose sleep? The truth my Friend; I don't drink often but when I do its kept moderate. On this evening however, I had a few of my high school click show up from out of town. In short, I wound up "fit-shaced". When I wrote all this I was just one last step from bonified alchohol poisoning. Reading back over this I am red-faced and ashamed. So cool however for someone to say something. Almost makes one feel looked after...I intend to leave this response long enough to be viewed and then I'll be work'in the delete key if hopefully I still can... Cheers Mate! Game on! Holy shit, you're right. I just downloaded the game, extracted it with sacrificing some of my av collection, and tried to mount it. And then the setup says like, "You can't play this on your lowly laptop dude." Fukk, my poor av.
thanks, then again unfortunately i cannot extract it or do anything with the file anyways so i guess i will just wait and http://see.one interesting thing i saw was that the clothes were "interactive" if it actually is true and clothes can be taken off or moved around then this game will end up being the most immersive thing ever...skyrim would lose to it lmao
guess what bitches my pc made of alien tecnology can run this with no problems alien power ftw fuck the stupid humans xP someone tell smek2 if he can run this with his mega nasa pc
What he means is everyone is a dick here, and won't answer any questions. So this crack group can just be known as incompetent. Nice work on that fail crack on Octopath Traveler
