The sound and sound effects is rotten, it sizzles whatever the level of sound. It's horrible and unplayable. What to do to fix this bug. Thank you in advance.
I was expecting a group of pirates would be more accepting, open minded, and all-around chill. You know, "STFU and try it" kinda peeps. Nope. Still a bunch of whiny bitches, but now over free stuff. It's FREE and some are still bitching about it. You guys... I don't know what to say.
i know im 3 years late but you seem to miss an important fact. (just a quick sidenote i own the snes version to this day im just curious) from what i saw and read the game is a huge bugfest. imagine someone buys you icecream FOR FREE but its actually a dog turd covered in sprinkles. you just wasted your time AND your hopes got crushed. doesnt matter if something is free or a gift or you paid for it. if its shit you have a right to complain. and honestly from what i could tell in the steam boards, every 2nd thread back in 2018 was about ppl REFUNDING the game because it was that bad. so tl:dr doesnt matter if its free or not, if its shit then its shit.
I frequent this place so it's whatever. It's one thing to say the game is bad and possibly isn't worth the time. But dude, look at the old warzone for this game. It's like someone forced the program onto their PCs without consent. Or -dare I say- bought it. I expected in a site filled to the teeth of illegal distribution of games to have comments not as cancerous as what you'd see on Steam. But nah, almost the same. So for that, nah. That sort of rage is damn near amusing to read, but depressing at the same time. Wasted time? Feh. Let's be fair, we have wasted it on lesser means.
Exactly. Funny thing is that I actually saw the game on another site I used to get my PC games from and guess what? ABSOLUTELY ZERO COMPLAINTS. People were even excited they could play the game now. At least no complaints in regards to the game itself. Anything people said were more or less stuff addressing glitches or audio issues they were having.
When running the setup.exe you need to put a check in the box next to "Copy contents of CODEX directory to installdir". If you didn't do that, then the game won't be patched. You can still copy the contents of the CODEX directory manually into the game's directory as well, if you don't want to run the installer again. Just mount the ISO file, then browse the disc. It should be the only directory on the root of the disc. Open it, and copy everything into the game's directory, overwriting any files that it asks for. You should now have the game patched. Hope this helps.
First time i've even heard of this game, reading the comments im not sure if I want to try this version or the original one.. But thanks for the upload igg <3
For those who say the SNES original looked better, you do not need any PC component (besides a gamepad) made this century. A Pentium 100 can run an SNES emulator just fine. Also new games are not for you.
For those saying new games aren't for you, reminder that this is a remake of a SNES game that you are talking about. Also, the graphics on the SNES were amazing for its time and still look damn good. This looks like it was made in a game-maker software found on Steam. Textures are fine, and models look like their respected pixel counterparts, but some of the soul; the charm, was lost upon the remaster. Also, what good is saying people don't deserve computers (or any tech) from this century because the preferred one graphics style over the other. Almost everyone prefers the original Halo: Combat Evolved graphics over the remaster, or to make a better, more related example: TMNT: Turtles in Time vs Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled. A SNES remake that went for updated graphics, and didn't really seem to wow anyone. Some people may prefer the new graphics, some people, myself included, will always remember the fond memories of the original, and the emotions evoked with those detailed little pixels.
FF12? Oh boy... Usually I download and review mainly "little" indie games, or any 2D game in general. This game is 28GB... Hmmm I don't have enough room on my external HD... lol Unless I find something I can delete...😢
Is there a crack for this game because each time I start the game, it send me straight to the steam page. I appreciate it if you can give me a solution please. Nvm, found one just uploaded on another site. Sorry for the inconvenience.
those are C++ runtime problem, google the required redist of this game then install/repair the C++, or just google the missing dll files... more risky but faster
Thanks for sharing the game, It's sad to see so many people complaining about this great game, I bought this game from Steam hoping them to make more remake in the future, would be very nice to see Chrono Trigger :P
Like somebody was commenting on Youtube though, Chrono Trigger deserves MUCH better than this. Low-poly 3D won't cut it. It needs either a very realistic unreal engine treatment (like Final Fantasy VII), or, why not just redoing it in 2D again, but this time with much higher resolution and details? Some games like Romancing Saga 2 have been ported to PC and they look infinitely better than the remastered version of Secret of Mana! http://cdn.edgecast.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/606370/ss_c82af6b38071ba5702fcc260a88ef05496de607b.jpg Yeah I think that is exactly how they should try to remake Chrono Trigger. Actually, even if the chances it happens are close to 0,0001%, I still hope that they'll re-REmake Secret of Mana once more, and this time in glorious HD 2D... ha ha Maybe some fans will do it... I wonder how much we can mod the remake. Modding is one of the biggest reasons I still download these ports, even when they think they're not that great. They can be improved dramatically.
You know what, i never ever tried Romancing SaGa series and after seeing your screenshot, it look really nice. So, i make a little research, didn't know they made a remake, was going to buy it on PS4 but $30.00 is too much for this kind of game. I just download it and will give it a try. Which game can you compare Romancing SaGa 2, like if you can tell me a SNES game closest to this one, just so i can have an idea what to expect.
Hmmm kinda difficult to answer... Stupid answer: Romancing Saga 1 on Snes?😅 At least, graphics-wise, the first games that come to my mind are the Final Fantasy ports on the PSP. I regret they seem to be criminally overlooked, but they do use a similar "HD" pixel art, like Final Fantasy II => http://iphoneac.com/images/ff/ff200.jpg Unless I'm wrong, the PSP ports of Final Fantasy I, II, and IV were never re-ported to any other consoles, so that makes them really unique.😦 And if you want something specifically on the Snes... Well again, Final Fantasy IV/V/VI... lol (Same developer, after all!) There are some key differences that make that game unique though:
there's permadeath for some characters
the game often feels "open-world" cos you can choose in what order you accomplish quests and stuff. (it was quite ahead of its time!)
the "generation" system (you play several heirs through a few centuries!) A lot of these key points are explained in this very insightful review of this game (I disagree with the "forgettable graphics" critic though) => http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/360335-romancing-saga-2-review-keeping-up-with-the-avalonians I have to say I didn't play this one since huh... The late 90s? lol So I forgot a lot.
Hey, I actually tried that but it didn't seem to work. it seems as though the steam emu is using it's own controller config. example: I set desktop config to gamepad (right pad = thumbstick, makes the haptics/noise as I move over the center, doesn't control mouse) when I click on Secret of Mana using my right thumbstick immediately switches to a mouse and moves the cursor, the haptic feedback changes (no center deadzone) I've used desktop mode for several games that need launchers (diablo 3) so I know HOW to do it, but it's not working for this game :(
Like every day(lol), Thanks IGG!😍👍 VERY SHORT REVIEW, DON'T WORRY😏 I'll begin with saying that in my opinion, this is one of the best stories I've ever seen in games. I find it fascinating and innovative (especially back in 1993! lol), and it's one of the few games in which I feel like reading everything and trying to get to know as much as I can about the lore, the relations between characters, etc. I wouldn't say it's that much dialogues-heavy though, which is a good thing anyway. he he I won't spoil anything and let you discover the story yourselves.😜 ALL HAIL THE NEW SCREEN SCROLLING SYSTEM I just tried the original game and gee, there's something I REALLY hate compared to the new one. You're always running to the edges of the screen, and you have to wait until the "camera" moves and shows you what's next. And VERY often, there are enemies lurking in the corner, obviously. lol (Actually, I totally forgot it was like that! Was it, really? Or did I play a hacked rom or something? Cos it seems so wrong...lol) I prefer MUCH better the clear and large vision of the field in the remake. The "camera" follows your character, so you always see what's around you. That's a BIG difference. See what I mean? It's all the time like this. The remake feels much more "comfortable" in this area. GRAPHICS: YAY OR NAY? As you can see, with a nice CRT filter (Geom) in Snes9x emulator, the original game still looks very nice. It arguably looks even better. (I'm having lots of fun reading the flame war about graphics in the Steam forum and reviews lol) I'm actually still pretty divided about the new 3D graphics... I love and hate it at the same time... lol I guess I might like the animations better, overall. I was just playing the original game a few minutes ago and noticed that plants didn't even have an animation when I slashed them... So this area has been improved a lot in the remake. The characters, on the other hand... Not sure anything can save them... lol The better animations make them look more "alive" in a way... But the blocky 3D and paralyzed faces do the exact opposite... lol More on this a few paragraphs below..😄. Oh and I really like the minimap on the upper right. Because... It actually uses the original game graphics! ha ha Well, it seems a bit modified, but you can still recognize it. Anyway, it's really cool.😁 Another positive thing about the graphics is that it's MUCH easier for me to read the text in the remake. I tried many different filters in Snes9x emulator but all of them end up hurting my poor eyes. lol On the other hand, I wonder if I didn't prefer the original dialogues, which seemed less cocky and more natural. CLUNKY COMBAT Not related to the remake thing, but... Throw rocks at me if you want, but I wish they got rid of the recharging weapon system completely. lol I've never been a fan of it and I think the only thing it achieves is to slow down the gameplay. And well, I need to play more to see if I get better at it, but the controls seem quite awkward in the remake... I miss my attacks way more often than in the past. Ultimately, this is the main reason I might go back to the old game. Combat seems to be a pain, so far... Any tips, friends? The hit boxes feel a bit different now that the game is in 3D, for good and bad... We can interrupt enemies attacks now though, which is a very big plus. And yeah... The first boss fight (with the Mantis) is still one of the most frustrating moments in the history of video games. I even got killed once, cos I was stunned during the ENTIRE fight and couldn't do anything. I can't believe they didn't try to make this different in this remake. THE EAR OF THE BEHOLDER My opinion about the music? I don't understand why everybody criticizes it. The new OST is a marvel to listen to. (gee, for once, I love something while everybody hate it...lol reversed situation!) I don't care if there are a few changes here and there, cos I don't really consider this game to be a faithful remake anyway. The composer managed to "sublimate" every track with modern arrangements, while preserving the original feeling, which is quite an achievement. Take it with a pinch of salt though, I didn't play long so I didn't listen to ALL of the tracks... Maybe I'll be disappointed later?😖 THE CURSE OF THE VENTRILOQUIST As for the voices though...I like neither Japanese nor English. They sound way too childish and I feel like the developers think that the average age of most players are 3 to 5, I guess? Japanophiles like me(I lived in Japan) usually love Japanese voices in anime and games cos it's a well-known fact they're much more convincing than English voices, and also have more "energy" in general. Well, in this case, they both sound dull, tired, and again, childish. Maybe I'll completely mute them after all. Anyway, they're all ventriloquists, as you can see in the videos... 🤣 Gee, that facial paralysis condition looks painful! lol Ventriloquists always make me think of that "Kung Pow" movie... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G8IR1DrNcE XD THEY SHOULD HAVE CALLED IT "SECRET OF CHIBI" The disappointment continues with the ultra-childish character design too. For some reason, I always thought that pixel art made characters potentially more "adults", but then again, maybe it's only cos you can use your imagination, with pixel art games. With blocky 3D, there's no room left for imagination, you take it as it is, a game that looks like it was made for 3 years old... Just my opinion anyway... Keep in mind I'm one of the oldest cats on IGG too... lol So, such design is not much appealing to me. https://img00.deviantart.net/07cb/i/2004/100/1/5/chibi_secret_of_mana.jpg Oh nice, I found a comment on Youtube which agrees with me: "Looks too weaboo. (...)Maybe it's just nostalgia, but snes version feels more hardcore for me and remake looks too kiddie like." I wouldn't say "hardcore", but definitely, the original game feels strangely more "mature". Edit: After further investigation, I realized that actually, LOTS of people say the same thing, after all. This looks like a baby game. lol MORE MOVIE-LIKE(or anime-like... lol) Also, I'd like to add that cutscenes are better because they contain more information and dialogues, making you more rooting for the characters and immersed in the story. The original had quite underwhelming scenes like the first scene when you pull out the sword. It seemed so... trivial(or shall I say "casual"?). lol "Oh hey I just pulled out a millennial magical sword and an old spirit talked to me!...Gee I wonder what's for dinner tonight..." POLISHED LIKE BRUCE WILLIS' BALD HEAD A positive thing is that strangely, unlike many people on Steam, I had ZERO bugs, and no weird audio artifacts either. Everything works smoothly in glorious 60fps and the game feels very polished to me. So I don't think you would have a reason to wait to play it. Especially since it's a Japanese game... Which are in most cases never updated, so don't even count on that. (the latest Zwei does get updates though) It seems that loading times when you enter a house are a tiny bit longer than in the old game... For a game with such low-poly 3D graphics, I think there are no excuses. And finally, the game takes 8,64gb on my drive and has 22,242 files... Yeah I know, who cares, we've got gigantic drives nowadays... But still... GEM OR TURD? Not sure what else to say at the moment, I barely played two hours. (Yep, and I have this much to say after just two hours... Imagine if I played eight hours...lol...And there would be MUCH more to say about this gigantic game...) I'll play more now that it's the weekend. I have no idea if I'll keep it or not. It has as many bad points as good ones... lol What I think is that somebody who truly loved the original game could enjoy the remake, no matter how many quirks there are. Even I, who think that there are LOTS of flaws, and feel divided about these graphics, still enjoy the captivating story, addictive gameplay, and nice feeling overall. (yes, this is a "feelgood" game, in my opinion😊) As I was saying in a previous comment, I might prefer to play the original game on an emulator because I can quicksave, which allows me to play the way I want, and quit whenever I want, instead of being forced to keep playing until I find an inn in which I can save. (and that goes for EVERY game, really. I skip most PC ports for the same reason, unless they're reaaaaally great. I skipped Tales of Symphonia for this very reason.) EDIT: I'm stupid, it took me 2 days to realize that the game autosaves everytime you enter any house/building. Nice. Not as convenient as a quicksave, but still, that's a very welcome plus. But anyway, I think that I'm going to play them both now. 🤣 RECOMMENDED SIMILAR GAMES
I agree with almost every point, especially the music is pretty good, don't know why many people hate it. The Artstyle in the remake IS really horrendous, i would have prefered a modernized pixel-art style like maybe Stardew Valley, which looks gorgeous.
Yeah, I regret that some developers don't realize how beautiful pixel art can be. A wasted opportunity! Sonic Mania is a great example of a nice new take on the old Sonic games.
Did you guys know that there was a way to get CD music in the original Secret of Mana, using Higan emulator? https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=201&v=yst28OiWUHw 😜👍 There's less and less reasons to play the new one, huh? Between this, and the improved hacked roms... btw, anybody has a download link to this great OST? => http://www.rpgfan.com/soundtracks/som-genesis/ Yep, I mean the 2012 arranged tracks, which might be the best version ever of this OST.
I like the review and i agree with you quite a bit, but one thing I noticed you didnt mention about the flower enemies is that they dont look like the flowers that are susposed to be around them. To me the look more like weeds than like actual flowers and do not blend in at all. My first time playing SoM i was blind sided by those damn flowers but in this one they stand out so much. I do suggest you give sword of mana a try. I was quite impressed with how it played and big tip, dont kill too many of the same enemy type. I made that mistake woith slimes in the vampire mansion lol.As for the other 2 you have listed at the end i would give them ago aswell. I like the remake quite bit so far, i love the new music, and i do enjoy seeing a new light to the old game. I do have to say they could have kept to the orrignal attacks instead of making new ones. I found my self stabbing more than slashing which is the exact opposite of the old game, and the spear is acting the the sword should. keep up the great reviews.
It's funny you say this, cos I resumed playing the original game to compare with the remake, and I just got poisoned by a flower!😲😅 You're right, they used to blend in, but now they seem so obvious, you can't miss them! About the attacks... I was just trying this rom hack, which might be the best for this game: https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=20093.0 Unfortunately, I'm not sure I agree with this choice of letting enemies recover twice faster than usual though. But it adds a block feature, and two different attacks. Thanks for the nice words, I'll keep reviewing whenever I have enough time!
so...this is an odd question, but does anyone know how to disable the multiplayer function? I'm playing using a PS4 controller, and, when I get a second party member, the game seems to treat said controller as being both player 1 and 2. This makes combat kinda awkward and more difficult than it normally would be, since it's kinda hard keeping track of where both characters are and who/what they're attacking. I had the same issue with Cuphead, and that was more or less unplayable because of it...so yeah. If anyone knows a way around this, I'd appreciate it. It's especially annoying since I'm otherwise loving this remake.
If you're using DS4Windows, try going into the settings tab, and check the "Hide DS4 Controller" box. With out that checked, your PS4 controller will show up as a Wireless Controller, as well as a XBox 360 Controller. This option disables the Wireless Controller. I have had problems like this in many games, and this usually fixes it. Edit: Your controller has to be plugged in for this to work. It won't work running in Bluetooth mode.
Also, before anyone says it, YES I'm aware I can just use the keyboard controls, and am doing so now. Still, I greatly prefer using a controller whenever possible, so I'd still very much like it if anyone could provide a solution for the issue mentioned above.
stupid question, but is anyone else having a problem getting the 2nd character to move after getting primm to join your party? i cant access her character ring or have he move. i can get the party to move in unison with wasd but other than that my gamepad only controls the main character
Yes, it does. You have to enable them in a .ini file in the game's folder. Scroll down to the part about dlc in the .ini file and replace the 0 with a 1 and save.
Yeah. I'm not saying the original was horrible, but I just think a lot of people who hate this remake aren't looking at things objectively or that they're blinded by nostalgia. not that I'm saying nostalgia is bad, though, but more that we have to be aware of when it's influencing our decisions. But, at the end of the day, I just know I played to around the same point in both versions earlier today (up until the first temple in the remake, but stopped after the first boss battle in the original) and I basically just gave my honest, objective opinion in regards to what I experienced. Personally, I like this updated version. I think the graphics were done pretty well and the textures look pretty good considering it's a remake. And, the game's soul seems to be preserved, so it does its job in my book. It just gets annoying when people ritualistically shit on a game because it wasn't to their liking (not to say I'm against negative criticism, though. More that I just feel this game wasn't given a fair shake and was just written off way too hastily). Either way, the Steam reviews seem to be mostly positive at the moment (around 70%) and an LPer I watch regularly just started playing the game. So, I'm content now. ^^
The combat looks smooth and better now from the video. The cutscenes however, the old is better. Zooming things out is not always the best way to go, especially if you don't have proper texture details for close distance nor proper mouth/speech animation. If they zoom things out just like the old one, then I'd say new one should win. The dancing shopkeeper is also better on the new one.
If I had a wish, it'd be for The Division to be able to be played offline. Yeah, I know it's not technically an mmorpg but still...It would be cool to have.
ha ha gee I don't have time to write a review for EVERY game which is on IGG! ha ha But definitely, I'll give it a try though. I have to say I grew up playing the original version on Super Nes though, and as a fan of pixel art and old games, I bet it'll be difficult for me to appreciate the new 3D art... But I'll try to keep an open mind. I see very conflicted opinions on Steam about this. lol
but but but i was sure that u download all games 😜 so why not review them all 😝 but yeah u must enjoy things or it will become boring and annoying, so yeah avoid this since i also played the original too and i dont feel like checking this one ;) Oh btw what about the pixelated corner of lily for ur review channel 😁
lol I can't imagine how long it would take to review all of the games on IGG... But I know one thing... Even when I have lots of free time on my hands, I never have enough time to review more than 2 games in a day. I just started playing Secret of Mana... Not sure what to think yet... I know it's stupid, but 99% of the time, when a console game is ported to PC, I still prefer the original console version cos I use emulators and therefore can quicksave. ha ha And I don't do this to make it easier, but just to "organize" my schedule the way I want. I hate when a game forces you to keep playing until you find a checkpoint or something. It's good for kids who have lots of free time... Us busy adults can't afford that luxury. lol
How about stop looking through your nostalgia filled glasses and see their is no difference between this and the original other than the graphics and remixed music. It's down to personal taste, pixels or 3d. It's day one so the technical bugs will probably be patched out later.
I was born in 1994. Again, I played both versions of the game earlier today, and I don't see what's so special about it. I've seen games with better sprite art, so I don't see why people praised it so much for that reason. And, to me, the remake looks like a faithful recreation. So, no. I was born in the early to mid 90s and I don't understand the point of all the bitching, other than blind nostalgia.
I would like to know too! The latest music of that cracking team rocks!😍 There's a nice website which collect all of these tracks, but sadly, it doesn't seem to be there yet => http://keygenmusic.net/?page=team&teamname=codex&lang=en
I don't think you know the difference between a remaster and a remake. This is the latter, not the former. On the Steam page, it even calls it a remake, not a remaster.
Really?! O.o i played a lot SoM on Snes, even on my phone... good old games remain a great memory with us, as there will be no remake of a memory! But i'll give it a try
A great memory yes. Should stay as memory imo lol With todays fidelity, if you play them again, it wont mean the same. Looks bad. At least for me. Unless if you are the type of gamer who didn't value the upgrade from NES to SNES, or PS1 to PS2. I couldn't help but value such, it was very noticeable. And I still value such today.
11GB for this...? Well I can't say anything cos I haven't played the game yet, but it's funny to see that many people prefer the original Super Nes game, which was only... 2MB.🤣 It makes you wonder if all of this technology was useful in the end. lol
Same here. Literally pre-release and even now, all I see is people bitching about the graphics and praising the original (I literally played both versions within the last hour. The remake actually seems better than the original to me, but then again, I'm not looking at things through nostalgia-filled glasses. Only edge I give to the original is that the gameplay was faster.). The only real issue I see is that the lips aren't synced to the voice-acted dialogue. Which looks weird, but easy for me to ignore. Never before have I seen a game so divisive based on graphics (or art style for that matter) nor has the community's reaction to said game make me lose faith in the gaming community more.
YES,Yippie thx alot IGG and Source :)= :).This game was my first rpg + coop(2 pads,no splitscreen) and was a great experience back in the days.Again thx. Edit: Well,it is not what i expected.I think just hd resolution and more details in 2d that would be enough, but the 3D is not good somehow not catchy like snes(hard to explain).I have to agree with Komi´s comment above. But still not that bad, just not what i would called succeed remastered.Sound/Music is good x)
You bought the SNES Classic Mini...and yet pirating this game?
You got some really messed up logic.
NOSTALGIA

If you didn't do that, then the game won't be patched. You can still copy the contents of the CODEX directory manually into the game's directory as well, if you don't want to run the installer again.
Just mount the ISO file, then browse the disc. It should be the only directory on the root of the disc. Open it, and copy everything into the game's directory, overwriting any files that it asks for.
You should now have the game patched.
Hope this helps.

I'll begin with saying that in my opinion, this is one of the best stories I've ever seen in games. I find it fascinating and innovative (especially back in 1993! lol), and it's one of the few games in which I feel like reading everything and trying to get to know as much as I can about the lore, the relations between characters, etc.
I wouldn't say it's that much dialogues-heavy though, which is a good thing anyway. he he
I won't spoil anything and let you discover the story yourselves.😜
ALL HAIL THE NEW SCREEN SCROLLING SYSTEM
I just tried the original game and gee, there's something I REALLY hate compared to the new one.
You're always running to the edges of the screen, and you have to wait until the "camera" moves and shows you what's next. And VERY often, there are enemies lurking in the corner, obviously. lol
(Actually, I totally forgot it was like that! Was it, really? Or did I play a hacked rom or something? Cos it seems so wrong...lol)
I prefer MUCH better the clear and large vision of the field in the remake.
(I'm having lots of fun reading the flame war about graphics in the Steam forum and reviews lol)
I'm actually still pretty divided about the new 3D graphics...
I love and hate it at the same time... lol
I guess I might like the animations better, overall.
I was just playing the original game a few minutes ago and noticed that plants didn't even have an animation when I slashed them...
So this area has been improved a lot in the remake.
The characters, on the other hand... Not sure anything can save them... lol
The better animations make them look more "alive" in a way... But the blocky 3D and paralyzed faces do the exact opposite... lol
More on this a few paragraphs below..😄.
Oh and I really like the minimap on the upper right.
Because... It actually uses the original game graphics! ha ha
Well, it seems a bit modified, but you can still recognize it.
Anyway, it's really cool.😁
Another positive thing about the graphics is that it's MUCH easier for me to read the text in the remake.
I tried many different filters in Snes9x emulator but all of them end up hurting my poor eyes. lol
On the other hand, I wonder if I didn't prefer the original dialogues, which seemed less cocky and more natural.
CLUNKY COMBAT
Not related to the remake thing, but...
Throw rocks at me if you want, but I wish they got rid of the recharging weapon system completely. lol
I've never been a fan of it and I think the only thing it achieves is to slow down the gameplay.
THE EAR OF THE BEHOLDER
My opinion about the music? I don't understand why everybody criticizes it.
The new OST is a marvel to listen to. (gee, for once, I love something while everybody hate it...lol reversed situation!)
I don't care if there are a few changes here and there, cos I don't really consider this game to be a faithful remake anyway.
The composer managed to "sublimate" every track with modern arrangements, while preserving the original feeling, which is quite an achievement.
Take it with a pinch of salt though, I didn't play long so I didn't listen to ALL of the tracks... Maybe I'll be disappointed later?😖
THE CURSE OF THE VENTRILOQUIST
As for the voices though...I like neither Japanese nor English.
Gee, that facial paralysis condition looks painful! lol
Ventriloquists always make me think of that "Kung Pow" movie...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G8IR1DrNcE
XD
THEY SHOULD HAVE CALLED IT "SECRET OF CHIBI"
The disappointment continues with the ultra-childish character design too.
Keep in mind I'm one of the oldest cats on IGG too... lol
So, such design is not much appealing to me.

Oh nice, I found a comment on Youtube which agrees with me:
"Looks too weaboo. (...)Maybe it's just nostalgia, but snes version feels more hardcore for me and remake looks too kiddie like."
I wouldn't say "hardcore", but definitely, the original game feels strangely more "mature".
Edit: After further investigation, I realized that actually, LOTS of people say the same thing, after all.
This looks like a baby game. lol
MORE MOVIE-LIKE(or anime-like... lol)
Also, I'd like to add that cutscenes are better because they contain more information and dialogues, making you more rooting for the characters and immersed in the story.
The original had quite underwhelming scenes like the first scene when you pull out the sword. It seemed so... trivial(or shall I say "casual"?). lol
"Oh hey I just pulled out a millennial magical sword and an old spirit talked to me!...Gee I wonder what's for dinner tonight..."
POLISHED LIKE BRUCE WILLIS' BALD HEAD
A positive thing is that strangely, unlike many people on Steam, I had ZERO bugs, and no weird audio artifacts either.
Everything works smoothly in glorious 60fps and the game feels very polished to me.
So I don't think you would have a reason to wait to play it.
Especially since it's a Japanese game... Which are in most cases never updated, so don't even count on that.
(the latest Zwei does get updates though)
It seems that loading times when you enter a house are a tiny bit longer than in the old game...
Imagine if I played eight hours...lol...And there would be MUCH more to say about this gigantic game...)
I'll play more now that it's the weekend.
I have no idea if I'll keep it or not.
It has as many bad points as good ones... lol
What I think is that somebody who truly loved the original game could enjoy the remake, no matter how many quirks there are.
Even I, who think that there are LOTS of flaws, and feel divided about these graphics, still enjoy the captivating story, addictive gameplay, and nice feeling overall. (yes, this is a "feelgood" game, in my opinion😊)
As I was saying in a previous comment, I might prefer to play the original game on an emulator because I can quicksave, which allows me to play the way I want, and quit whenever I want, instead of being forced to keep playing until I find an inn in which I can save. (and that goes for EVERY game, really. I skip most PC ports for the same reason, unless they're reaaaaally great. I skipped Tales of Symphonia for this very reason.)
EDIT: I'm stupid, it took me 2 days to realize that the game autosaves everytime you enter any house/building. Nice.
Not as convenient as a quicksave, but still, that's a very welcome plus.
But anyway, I think that I'm going to play them both now. 🤣

The Artstyle in the remake IS really horrendous, i would have prefered a modernized pixel-art style like maybe Stardew Valley, which looks gorgeous.
A wasted opportunity!
Sonic Mania is a great example of a nice new take on the old Sonic games.

😜👍
There's less and less reasons to play the new one, huh?
Between this, and the improved hacked roms...
btw, anybody has a download link to this great OST? =>
http://www.rpgfan.com/soundtracks/som-genesis/
Yep, I mean the 2012 arranged tracks, which might be the best version ever of this OST.
You're right, they used to blend in, but now they seem so obvious, you can't miss them!
About the attacks...
I was just trying this rom hack, which might be the best for this game:
https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=20093.0
Unfortunately, I'm not sure I agree with this choice of letting enemies recover twice faster than usual though.
But it adds a block feature, and two different attacks.
Thanks for the nice words, I'll keep reviewing whenever I have enough time!
I had the same issue with Cuphead, and that was more or less unplayable because of it...so yeah. If anyone knows a way around this, I'd appreciate it.
It's especially annoying since I'm otherwise loving this remake.
I have had problems like this in many games, and this usually fixes it.
Edit: Your controller has to be plugged in for this to work. It won't work running in Bluetooth mode.
And btw, if you want to see a very nice looking HD remaster, go try Sonic 2 HD! => https://sonic2hd.com/

The cutscenes however, the old is better. Zooming things out is not always the best way to go, especially if you don't have proper texture details for close distance nor proper mouth/speech animation. If they zoom things out just like the old one, then I'd say new one should win.
The dancing shopkeeper is also better on the new one.
oh and dont hold back baby, lol
lol
well done hun ;) now here, have a cookie 🍪 ^_^
But definitely, I'll give it a try though.
I have to say I grew up playing the original version on Super Nes though, and as a fan of pixel art and old games, I bet it'll be difficult for me to appreciate the new 3D art...
But I'll try to keep an open mind.
I see very conflicted opinions on Steam about this. lol
but yeah u must enjoy things or it will become boring and annoying, so yeah avoid this since i also played the original too and i dont feel like checking this one ;)
Oh btw what about the pixelated corner of lily for ur review channel 😁
I should try a catchy and short name, so that people can remember it easily.😄
well surprice me with a name :P
But I know one thing... Even when I have lots of free time on my hands, I never have enough time to review more than 2 games in a day.
I just started playing Secret of Mana...
Not sure what to think yet...
I know it's stupid, but 99% of the time, when a console game is ported to PC, I still prefer the original console version cos I use emulators and therefore can quicksave. ha ha
And I don't do this to make it easier, but just to "organize" my schedule the way I want.
I hate when a game forces you to keep playing until you find a checkpoint or something. It's good for kids who have lots of free time... Us busy adults can't afford that luxury. lol
Btw what's the cool music in the isntaller?
The latest music of that cracking team rocks!😍
There's a nice website which collect all of these tracks, but sadly, it doesn't seem to be there yet =>
http://keygenmusic.net/?page=team&teamname=codex&lang=en
With todays fidelity, if you play them again, it wont mean the same. Looks bad. At least for me.
Unless if you are the type of gamer who didn't value the upgrade from NES to SNES, or PS1 to PS2. I couldn't help but value such, it was very noticeable. And I still value such today.
.
Well I can't say anything cos I haven't played the game yet, but it's funny to see that many people prefer the original Super Nes game, which was only...
2MB.🤣
It makes you wonder if all of this technology was useful in the end. lol
