I can't play, it just keeps saying there's an error when I run PM5.exe. :/ And the Steam version may be less buggy but the official translation is terrible and obviously wasn't done by a native speaker compared to the fan translated file that was originally uploaded. I wish there was a way to download past uploads because I can't find a copy of the game that's already patched with the fan translation.

Translations is out the somewhere on wiki. There is a file you can download to get the english language to work,
then you put it in install dir, look it up on wiki, princessmaker wiki
site on the net and you should find the file there somewhere i. hope you

Agreed with Sera, Mine as well, some translation won't work on Ryuunosuke's christmas party. And it goes crashed when the girl met Ryuunosuke's grandfather. Cannot continue afterward. Keep crashing at the same spot.

This is not the translated Steam release by "CFK Co., Ltd."
But the Fan Translation version (with a less-stilted English translation) that still
consists of quite a lot of bugs (due to the fact they haven't found a hacker/programmer to fix the remaining bugs) and untranslated lines (e.g. Emirin's News "titles" are not translated. The actual articles are though, if you click on them, though.) Plus, some cut-off text lines that are unreadable because they completely go off the textbox and off the screen. Plus, there is a lot of strange code gibberish (sometimes variables) in certain text lines.
The main problem I've always experienced with the Fan Translation game whenever I used it (before the Steam version existed) is that I often ended up being unable to load my save files later on, because eventually (if you get far enough in the game, like after your daughter enters High School)… loading up your save files sometimes results in an immediate crash upon re-loading, barring you from continuing from where you last saved. And you can never recover your save and are forced to literally start over from the very beginning… which could be annoying or frustrating. I personally find this very tedious, because this is a LOOONG game, and starting over from the beginning is just… No…
The Fan Translation Version contains a folder called "translations" within it and a log.txt that mentions "Princess Maker translation tools 1.7" + The Name Input in the Prologue includes Japanese Kana (when the Steam version doesn't).
The Steam Version will have a splash screen showing the "CFX" logo and then shows "©CFX" below "©Yonago GAINAX" on the title screen. The translation of course is different (different stat names, more awkward overall—but bear-able, etc).
I prefer the "Steam Version," because it crashes less, and doesn't have most of those game-breaking bugs I mentioned (regarding the save files). The translation isn't the greatest, but it's readable, despite its flaws.
But I would prefer the "Fan Translation" over the Steam Version if those translation errors, broken text strings, and game-breaking bugs were fixed.

I'm still waiting for the Latest "Steam" Release of Princess Maker 5, as this isn't it… I’ve played the Princess Maker 5 - Fan Translation Release enough times already to be able to recognize it on sight, haha… xD
PS: If people want to play the Fan Translation, I recommend that you manually patch the game yourself, as I am not 100% sure if the one patched in this IGG game release is the Latest Version (as of now that would be: Provisional Patch 1.0.4) of the Translation Scripts that were released by the Group that fan-translated Princess Maker 5. Also even the Translator says "There are some scripts included within the 'bintools' archive, but they are vastly out of date and should not be considered representative of the finished product. You are very likely to run into crashes or other issues.”
I had no trouble patching it myself, other than encountering some odd gibberish code translation strings, and the game-breaking save bug that I mentioned earlier. And it would crash if you talked or interacted with the Fortune Teller in any way. It doesn't do that in the Steam Release, as far as I know.
