Game looks pretty good at least, I like the seemingly African setting for a change, which is quite rare in videogames; something different from the same old tired Greek mythology shit or that fucking Nordic Viking crap anyway. But man, this game is too fucking hard right off the bat, and I mean 'Nintendo Hard' hard; even in easy difficulty it's just fucking brutal. There's a lot of platforming to do, awful enemy placement in some areas, with some of them requiring several hits to kill, coupled with limited lives and going all the way back to the beginning of the stage if you lose them all, unless you choose the easier difficulty setting, which the game pretty much forces you to do. I mean, seriously, this kind of challenge was tolerable during the NES and SNES heyday, but fuck, man, who has the patience, skills and/or time to go through all that shit anymore? You'd think at the very least that big ape you play as would take more than three measly hits before going down, but no, guy's a total punk.
Hmmm I think I'll pass.🤔 According to reviews, level design is weird and repetitive, boss fights are unfairly difficult, and also the game is apparently extremely short. (2-3 hours)
In other words, a truly retro action-platformer? ^^ Many games back then where quite good and fair in earlier levels, just for the later ones to tun into unfair messes. Oh the raging in Gargoyles Quest (GB) or one of the Asterix games for Master System with their horrible hit boxes. Finished both of them again a few weeks ago. For example in the Asterix game you have to ride a moving platform through lots of spikes, instant death waiting below and neither can you crouch to avoid shit, nor can you actually walk on this specific platform. To avoid spikes you have to often jump to reposition yourself on the platform but you have to do it in the right millisecond as you get automatically centered on the platform again, which causes you to touch the spikes above, get knocked of the platform and fall to your death...
Well, you get a point, because now that I remember, when played correctly, most old platformers can be finished very fast. Even while not speedrunning, Sonic 1 can be finished in 45 min, I think. I guess I became too demanding, and I always expect games to be as long as Metroidvania games, which is stupid, and I tend to forget that platformers are supposed to be much shorter. Actually, most of my favorite platformers are very short. I didn't try that Asterix game on Master System, but I played one on Megadrive, and it was definitely quite frustrating at times. In fact, I almost skipped completely the Master System. (my first console was the Megadrive)
The Mega Drive ones are worse and I don't like them at all. Thats why I don't have them in my collection. The Master System ones are quite fun before becoming frustrating in later levels. Many games that are seen as classics are actually quite bad, like Shadow of the Beast. Lack of overview because biggest sprites = better back then, even if you couldn't see the enemies before running into them. Constantly respawning enemies with often no chance to evade plus often taking too many hits to kill (e.g. later levels of Alisia Dragoon). Slippy controls (includes Mario games too btw). Bad hit boxes, low attack range and of cause lots of games with one hit kills, autoscrolling or a combination of both (Atomic Runner). And then there were games were it was impossible to complete a certain level, because the game was incomplete and they didn't want people to find out. xD
Hardcore platformer with beautiful pixel graphics. Has some of that Volgar or Legendary Axe vibes. Also the MC's face reminds me of the MC from Dead Cells.
This is a very good 2D Action Adventure game to play , its graphics very charming and its very enjoyable in its gameplay , try it guys . Edit : use controller to play it as its very hard to use keyboard ( mouse not supported ) .
I used XBOX controller and its worked fine for Me , I do not know about rebind settings , I just lunch it and play the game , but its very simple and I do not think You will need the rebind settings .
I finish the game with 133 death and 14 continue i would say that enemy in some room is just want to make you get 1 hit kill by throw you into void, sometimes there is some interesting mechanic but most of the time you will die by unfair fight Some boss is just headache.. like final boss it took me to reset whole stage about 3 times (i run with 6-7 life when get into boss room) these guy did make art and sound pretty great, but a fair enemy/boss fight isn't good :/
