I got it for Saturn but stopped playing when it turned into a damn jump'n'run where you fell to your death easily, having to restart the whole level. PC version is different from the level design but you still can't save in the middle of the level. Well you "can" but still have to restart at the beginning of the level after loading.
For those who want to play Powerslave/Exhumed in the best conditions, it's better to use a custom launcher and not the very lazy re-release with Dosbox from GOG. (Go see reviews on GOG, people are complaining it runs badly with Dosbox) As of December 2020, I would say that the most advanced engine now is BuildGDX (link in the video below), but PCExhumed is really as good in my experience. Maybe you'll need to look up some tutorials, but it's not difficult and it's really worth it. But you DO need to download the GOG version first anyway, or even the original DOS version(you can find on abandonwares websites), because you need the original data files to use with the launcher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUf25_ICIQo&t=216s And by the way, the developer Nightdive, who remastered so many great FPS in the past few years, is working on a remaster (and not remake!) of this game, hopefully coming soon!
I try to launch the game with the BuildGDX Engine (latest version) and I get some JAVA errors. It works ok with Duke Nukem 3D though... Is there any fix to that? The PCExhumed version (Build 24.11.2020) works perfectly as well.
Same here. I had no problems with Blood and BuildGDX, but with Powerslave and PCExhumed Java errors. Tried to run a dozen times in different ways. Nah.
Oh, that's weird, it works perfectly on my side. I have "BuildGDX Release v1.06" (WITHOUT JRE), and I show you a screenshot of my folder. I didn't install the music, as you can see. I do have Java installed, but I think it's a very very old version which I didn't update since ages... And for me, using the "no-JRE" version of BuildGDX always worked. In any case, I would still suggest that you if you don't have it already, you install the latest version of JAVA on your PC. By the way, I just tried the latest version of PCExhumed, and it's great, and even easier to setup with the music files, etc. It doesn't have as many options as BuildGDX, but maybe it's the best launcher now.
Sometimes I like messing around with files 👌 so I was interested. I was a little confused and very annoyed at first, and didn't know that Blood had 5 different versions. I also didn't know how to run BuildGDX, because people wrote differently on the forums. I finally found a good solution on Steam. Then I found out that there are a lot of Mods and Add-ons 👍. Fun game, definitely better than Powerslave 😆 I'm surprised people make mods and software for games like this. Blood is 23 years old. So, now my Folders look like that: Thanks again Delphine.
Wow, you got carried away and now you have even more Blood mods than I do! ha ha There are so many HD mods that I'm not sure anymore which is the best. I have a huge one named "bgupscale2904", it's like 500MB+ of hd textures... But I want to check out your "ZXHD" mods, it's the first time I see it! he he By the way, did you get "Blood - Fresh Supply" from IGG? It's also a remaster by Nightdive Studios. If I remember correctly, there were lots of complaints at first, and it was about the frame-rate, I think. But everything has been fixed, and now, this is the best version you can get of Blood. (without mods)
Long Story. No, not from IGG. I downloaded Fresh Supply from Pirate GOG first, but noticed it was the 2019 release. Immediate uninstall. (I read in the descriptions of mods that this is a version, that does not like or is incompatible with mods) Then I found nBlood, eeeee. But I was looking for the oldest DOS version and unfortunately did not find it. Then, I read somewhere about Blood: One Unit Whole Blood. GOG store had this version, but the Pirate GOG site did not. However, finally I found a pirate version of GOG - Blood: One Unit Whole Blood :) on some other page and Modded that version. I haven't seen a 500MB Graphics Pack anywhere, but I realize that on these dozens of forum pages, you can find a lot. I spent 2 hours modding Powerslave and PC Exhumed. Errors. I gave up.
there is a way to change the control bindings? can not use Mouse, moves with Arrow, shoot with Control, crouch with z, jump with a, etc https://youtu.be/vJhxJSdy33Y
Agreed, Powerslave EX looks and plays incredible. There's a great speedrun (60FPS, enjoy!) on Youtube => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5okg-_e6ow But if I'm not mistaken, this is the PS1 port of Powerslave/Exhumed, right? (with the blue scorpions, instead of the red ones. Different level design, etc.) You can also use the engines BuildGDX or PCExhumed nowadays, they're also fantastic alternatives and run perfectly. I'm a huge fan of Exhumed since the first version I played on Sega Saturn like you, back in 1996, actually! ha ha I even still have the original game and the console, of course.
Yep, you're talking about "Re-Exhumed" => https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=47821 Unfortunately, according to the posts I read on this forum, the modder was a bit immature and eventually, he gave up on this anyway. (since 2016...) I remember trying this mod and it was severely imbalanced and incomplete, but showed some promises, so I was very disappointed. Anyway, nowadays, this mod is completely outdated and it's better to play with BuildGDX or PCExhumed, or even Powerslave EX(PS1 port, but it looks a bit different). I'm glad we got so many great options to play this game nowadays!
Come oooon it was great!(well, ok, playing with a gamepad on Saturn wasn't ideal though lol) Well, what version did you play? I played the Saturn version back in 1996, and obviously, the bad frame-rate, very pixelated graphics and a few other shortcomings have aged rather badly. But you should try one of the recent launchers I mentioned in other comments to play in the best conditions, and maybe you'll appreciate it much more! he he Or PowerslaveEX, the PS1 port, which also plays and runs beautifully. Some old FPS are sometimes more enjoyable when we play on modern engines. (For example, I didn't like Turok back then, but I like its great remaster by Nightdive lol)
Delphine, Powerslave was not that bad, but I quickly stopped playing that, from what I remember. Maybe it was too difficult, maybe I didn't like the graphics, I don't remember. Then there was a plethora of games (better quality then now), and all pirated (sometimes I had to pay for illegal too:). I didn't have games right on release day, there was no internet yet. So at the same time I was playing Duke Nukem 3D, Crusader: No Regret, Descent II, CyberJudas, Championship Manager, Civilization II (still best in series) to mention a few. Yes, I checked so that I could give a few examples and remember what I preferred to play instead. What launchers? Emulators? BTW: PC always of coz. Amiga, C64, Atari XE, ZX Spectrum+ before. EDIT: Also a short story with PS2, that I bought because I didn't have any "gaming equipment" with me, during my emigration to the UK. I'm writing about this, because I'm not Console player 😆.
Ah, it's true it can be a bit hardcore in some levels, and I wish it was possible to reduce the difficulty sometimes! As for me, I got my first PC only in 1998, so I discovered Doom, Quake, Shadow Warrior a few years after their release! On Saturn, I did play Duke Nukem, though, and it was really good. So, I'm a bit like you, I was playing games with a delay! lol Hey I agree about Civilization II, and I still have it on my computer. I also have the free games "Freeciv" and "Freecol", which are good alternatives. I recommend especially Freeciv if you have never tried it. Oh I'm not an expert, so it's way too difficult for me to explain what a launcher is, but for example, it's usually an .exe file you drop in the main folder of an old game, and it's like replacing the engine of the game, or using an improved version. For example, you get better frame-rate, widescreen resolutions, some bugfixes, additional/optional lighting effects, etc. It's limitless. I play literally 100% of old FPS with custom launchers. lol And it makes them twice more enjoyable, really. Emulators? Well, yeah, after all, I guess the concept is a bit similar. Except launchers focus on just one game, making it usually much better. Emigration to UK? Where do you come from? India? :)
So you started out as Console girl 👍. I got my first PC somewhere 1994-95, probably. There was DOS, Norton Commander and shit Windows 3.11 🤣 Yep, I played FreeCiv of course. I forgot, that one of my favorite games was Colonization. Why do you play old games? If I may ask. Nah, not from India, let's say I come from a different part of Europe, but I really Like UK, always wanted to visit, visited and stayed for a dozen years 😁. Emigration was a metaphor. I'm modding and localizing sometimes, so I know a little bit 😄. So Delphine, some links for those Launchers, please. EDIT: I just noticed your comment at the top.

theres already a doom mod conversion, similar to zblood
