Wow, this game was so good, I've always liked puzzle games, but haven't played Portal before, and it was so much fun. I wish I could buy it on steam to support the developers of this amazing game, but I just don't have any money..
Make sure to place the 3 parts in a single folder like for example downloads, desktop etc. Next, use winrar and extract the first part (part 1) and choose a location where to put the extracted file. Winrar will extract the 3 parts as long as they are in the same folder. When it is finished, you will see a single folder in the destination. That is the file that is combined byb the 3 parts. That's why it is important to place the 3 parts in the same folder before extracting so the final product will be complete.
Is the file size less than 5 MB? Did you get the file directly, or have you used an exe? If the answer to any of the questions is yes, you downloaded an ad. Please try downloading the files again and make sure you get the correct ones.
You download all of the parts, and your archiving program like WinRAR, or 7-ZIP will merge them automatically when you extract it. Make sure you have all the parts downloaded and in the same folder, open part 1 and extract the files to somewhere on your PC.
Guys i can see that everyone is getting different problems, and stuff, but I found a way to fix it! When you download all 3 parts, put them into a folder or something (completly optional) then select all 3 winRaR files, right click, and press extract here, then there's a normal windows folder extracted with the full game, just double click setup, allow admin permission, then wait for it to install! And it will all work perfectly! Hope I helped :)! Also for those who are paranoid, yes, this is completly safe, there's no virus or trojan or something bad! I really hope i helped some people around here!
my game opens then freezes, but i can move my mouse. i tried to get into the options which doesnt work. can i change the settings in one of the config datas?

above the comments section there's a place wherer you can read "part 1 - part 2 - part 3" many times in a row. There are the 3 parts you have to download to get the full game :)
i'm curious because the game runs completely fine; i dl'd all three parts and i only extracted part 1 and ran setup and the game is full and working, so what was the point in dl'ing all of the parts? it appears like it only took from part one. ELI5???
The app that you use to unzip stuff like this detects the missing parts on your pc, i mean, if you only download part 1 it wont be functional but if you DO download all the parts, you can play
When you extract part one it automatically extracts all other parts at the same time and collects it into one big file. That is how it works. If you didn't have the rest of the parts then it would fail.
did you download the other parts? if you did and only extracted the 1 part the game will work. but if you only downloaded the 1 part (which i don't think you did since the game works) and extracted the first part in 7zip or winrar (which i think you used) it will say that you need the other parts. hoped this helped!
Yes, you only need to extract the first part (or any of the parts), as long as all the other parts are in the same directory. Winrar, 7zip, Winzip or whatever software you're using to extract it will automatically find the other parts and extract it all. Convenient, huh?
install the demo "portal - first slice", and put portal -still alive- in the sourcemods folder, once that is done, click on the "gameinfo" file, and change the appid from 400 to 410
The same thing happened to me. Make sure that your anti-virus software is disabled while doing the RAR file stuff. I did it a second time and it worked alright. If you don't have an anti-virus software, then download the parts again and see how it works out.

Whenever i launch with steam up it says 'SteamStartup() failed: Missing interface' But if i start it with steam off it says its stopped working and i have to close the program Anyone able to help me?
Odd. I turned down all the graphics options to lowest possible, and now it worked. If anyone has this problem, check the graphics card or turn down all settings.
