Wow, this game has come far since I last played! If you like card-based games, and you can handle a faster pace and a potentially high volume of things happening in a short amount of time, do yourself a favor and pick this up!
Most of the major issues the game had have been resolved or alleviated, though I've yet to dig deeper into the game. The main wonky thing about it is the translation, and the overall confusing introduction of dozens of mechanics that often intertwine. Just take the time to read what everything does outside of combat, and don't be afraid to waste a couple of seconds in combat understanding what just happened/what an enemy does.
The gameplay is a bit hard to describe. You have three different kinds of cards; creatures, structures and spells. They do what you'd expect; summon different animals to fight for you, place towers and spawners, and fling damaging spells or useful abilities. Simple on paper, but they often tend to intertwine or have an impact on other cards. Cards have no cost associated with them, so a mega powerful unit and the basic attack spell spend the same amount of "energy". There's a good balance to be found in this though, as the most powerful cards are not always the best choice for the situation, and you may find yourself choosing to place low level defensive units instead of that rare structure because you realize that's a better option in the current circumstances.
The "energy" that I mentioned is not a resource, rather, it's the amount of cards you can play before having two or less cards. That's the main point of the turn mechanic, you can play as many cards as you want save for your last two, which always get discarded and your turn passes as soon as you've only two left (or run out of time!). This makes card draw the equivalent of having extra actions or energy, and the game manages it quite well. For instance, one of the most desirable early cards is a simple, low tier Golden Egg card: once played, it adds two Chick cards to your hand every turn for the rest of the combat. Those cards being the lowest, weakest (but still surprisingly useful) unit in the game. This effectively circumvents having to not use two of the cards you draw, but it's also not very exploitable as any further uses of the card will just net you more chicks, but not more actual cards. Flooding the screen with hordes of little yellow featherballs of pure hatred and destruction is great, but you might not want to overdo things!
The relics (pulled straight out of Slay the Spire, no doubt) add a further couple of spins to this already surprisingly deep card system, and overall, it feels very fleshed out, flexible, and open to experimentation and different approaches to combat within a single deck.
The "Card Pack" mechanic (no, don't run! It's not a microtransaction!) is an interesting choice: instead of having every single card in the game available to randomly drop for you at any given time, you select three different card packs (one is tied to your character, so two really) and those become the pool the game draws from for card drops. It allows you to have less RNG reliant decks, more control over your playstyle, and it's well implemented, but I'm hoping there is or they add an optional "just put everything in that pool and let the RNG gods bring down their punishment" option.
Either way, I have lots of good to say about the game and very little bad. While I'm coming to it with prior experience, I think it's fairly noob-friendly, especially nowadays, and once it clicks with you, you'll feel completely at home with it and hopefully enjoy it ;)

Works fine, sounds like you didn't crack it. Make sure you copy the contents of the PLAZA folder over the game install, overwriting the files.
