Technically speaking, an oni is equivalent to a demon. Oni also have a single leader like a demon, which is 閻魔大王. The only difference I would say oni in Japan do more physical damage, but high ranking oni also know how to use 魔術 or 妖術. Personally, I think it is the modern Japanese depiction of oni that influenced the demon in the West, instead of "they look more like generic demons than Oni"
I lived in Japan for years when I was young. Oni only have one look, which is "big, horned, ogre-like beings." You could consider them as a subset of Japanese denon, as there are other types as well, so I believe the depiction in the game is accurate with Japanese Buddhism. And quite contrary, the demons in the Western games are usually incorrect and inconsistent with the Bible. (As I went to a Christian school throughout my childhood)
First of all, zero reason to try to lecture me, I know what an Oni is. Second of all, I know very well the difference between the depiction of an Oni in media and a generic demon. This is generic demon, NOT Oni. Oni have much wider mouths, giant teeth that in some cases reach up to their noses(The ones pointing up at least), have much smaller horns and they never shoot straight up, they always have some kind of inclination or go sideways or something along those lines. Whenever they have hair it's either super short or very messy and when they have beards it's always huge, not short and groomed like this. The white demon in the first pic looks more like an elf due to those long ears and the one in the "cover" pic? That is 100% a western media's depiction of a demon or even Satan himself. Oni are ugly. Oni are brutes. If you could compare an Oni to anything it would be an Ogre or possibly even an Orc. These are not Oni. If anything these are yassified Oni, designed to look "pretty" because whoever did the art for this game is a coward and made the demons pretty because "oh we can't have ugly monsters in our gay sex game they have to be pretty to appeal to everyone" If the game is going to SPECIFY that these are Oni AT THE VERY LEAST make them look Japanese. But then again now that I look at the "cover" and the second pic, it seems like the demon in the "cover" is just that character in the second pic transformed so. Oh also, demons in western media are NOT based on the bible but instead based on popular media depictions of demons they aren't meant to be bible accurate. Unless it's Castlevania, that's a different story.
