Millenial developers seem to love their 80s nostalgia despite most of them being too damned young to remember any of it. It's really quite interesting to watch.
Too much so-called 80s stuff recently doesn't even feel 80s anymore. It's like NewRetroWave music(which I like though), Stranger Things, and all of these indie games...
There is one title in particular and it pretty much balances the old and the new altogether. Sega's Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap was a (Wonder Boy III) 1986 title brought back in remake hand drawn fashion. You are able to switch from 1986 version to 2017 on the fly. It felt authentic and fresh @ same time.
I don't have this one, but I have "Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom", and I think it's really great!๐ But The Dragon's Trap definitely looks cool as well.
If you enjoyed Cursed Kingdom, I recommend Dragon's Trap as well. Especially if you are into other games like the Shantae series, then add this to your collection for sure. It was a solid remake worth playing from start to finish.
