you cant exit the reasearch level ,thus you cant continue,please help

can i play this game in coop mode?

Is there a bug where progress isn't saved? Because I stopped playing after getting halfway through the game, got off due to real life, and got back on the next day...and somehow I only had the progress of when I beat the 2nd level.
