Something that was made with the intent of being interesting in mind. Because of that people like it if it's done correctly. The thing is, the history of a country may not be that interesting, because it's... that. The story of something real. How it was made, the things that happened. It may be interesting for people who like history in general, though.
I wouldn't call it waste of time, that's for sure. Just something to keep your mind out of the real world and what's going on. But yeah. People have different likes, right? Everyone can do what they like :D
