How is it a cash grab when not only are both games enhanced but they even have brand new chapters and content? Online cross platform deathmatch, local split screen, brand new and improved OST with the ability to switch to the original one, mod support, improved performance with 4k res and up to 120 FPS, modern controller support, widescreen support, engine level bug fixes and patches, quick save/quick load functions plus the brand new chapters for each game. This is not a simple cash grab

Just because it's been done before by an unofficial tool doesn't mean it's implementation in official versions make it a cash grab. If this was ported with no enhancements at all, THAT would be a cashgrab. This isn't as they actually put work into it. You want an actual pathetic cashgrab, go look at the House Of The Dead 2 "remake", THAT is a cashgrab

beware the might of doom 2 slaughter maps! not even modern pc's can handle such overwhelming demonic power effectively! >:) (i still get less than 1 fps sometimes while playing the compendium's slaughter maps. it even got so bad it broke gzdoom's audio output till i rebooted gzdoom once)

that is a lot of angry imps... though i probably should've remembered to mention i also like using DoomRPG SE Rebalance which changed my approach to slaughter maps more towards grinding for power than relying largely on infighting. they're still fun maps though.

Try Blood, it's the best of all Build engine games. Hexen and Heretic use a different engine.

I'm not sold on the new Hexen episode. I saw a YT video and noticed some of these maps look too amateurish and don't do justice to the main game. If you really want the best custom maps ever made for Hexen play Cyrgoth's Revenge and Afterlands; both are above Deathkings of the Dark Citadel.

why are the sys reqs so high for these 2 ancient games? crappy emulator?

As you may already know, indie or AA games choose to inflate their requirements (for marketing reasons and for convenience due to prestige), and AAA games usually do the opposite, the recommended requirements in AAA games are usually not enough for 60fps Ultra Settings at 2k or higher, they do this because if their requirements are too high the game will not sell very well. On PC, 60% of gamers use mid-range.

i'd say a potato could run this but slaughter maps in doom taught me better.

even my current pc hits less than 1 fps in doom 2 slaughter maps at times. (it once got so bad in one such map that it broke gzdoom's audiou output until i rebooted it!)

"for marketing reasons and for convenience due to prestige"

that's stupid

"and AAA games usually do the opposite, the recommended requirements in AAA games are usually not enough for 60fps Ultra Settings at 2k or higher,"

forget ultra bs, 60fps still isn't the stable baseline for gaming after all these decades. AAA garbage barely runs as advertised most of the time.

"they do this because if their requirements are too high the game will not sell very well."

yeah, why be honest when you can lie and bs your way to profits?

and even putting aside the sys reqs, most devs are still dumb enough that they leave their games default graphics settings to ultra. the number of times i've started up a game only to soon after hear my graphics card's fan make clicking sounds because the dumbass dev defaulted to MAX SETTINGS is ridiculous.

shouldn't have to check the graphics settings menu EVERY TIME i start a new game to fix that FOR the devs. they should default to MEDIUM at most.

like you pointed out, most gamers are using mid-range pc's. not max setting ultra uncapped fps RICH AF SUPER MEGA PC's!

and i'm not as mad as this comment probably comes off as...rather just...frustrated over time more than mad. just tired of the BS mainly.

realistically, due to sys reqs mainly being a copypasta meme for games nowadays (unless specified otherwise) along with the fact we can always uglify a game via the settings, the sys reqs don't really matter that much in general.

actually...lemme just go ahead and check this and see...

ok, there's the emulator (dosbox)...that explains the most of the file size. so, it actually IS a good and legit emulator for once. though i more expected to see a copy of GZDOOM as that's what i usually use for these 2 games.

"base" folder...uh huh...those are the game install directories...

OK, i see. this isn't simply a rerelease of these 2 games. it's a emulated rerelease of the dos version of these 2 games and not the wad file version.

using ~555MB RAMon the game select menu (closer to 800MB in-game), very little cpu as expected, and very little VRAM.

so, yep. the minimum sys reqs are VASTLY higher than what this needs to run. i was right. this is a potato bundle.
