To everyone hating on this game saying its bad design there is no map blah blah blah. Some people actually like challenges that make us use our brain. not to mention this game has actually been recieved quite well.
And some people like to actually know where they are going. Besides, you're never forced to use a map so you're never being stopped from challenging yourself and using your brain. Also no one is saying a lack of map is bad design, it's simply swinging way too far to the other side. Also a game being received well doesn't mean it's without flaws
never said it was perfect. just sayin dont say something is a bad design cause you dont agree with a choice the devs made when its clearly not a bad choice when most people love it. yea some people like maps. so what. the game was made for people that want a realistic challenge. if you dont want a realistic challenge move on
Having a map doesn't deny you a "realistic" challenge. When will people understand that videogames are meant to be an ESCAPE from reality, not a reinforcement of it. Having a map doesn't make a game any less challenging. And, again, no one is saying not having a map is bad design, just that it swings too far to the other side
people were saying that it was a bad design because of that so theres that. just go ahead and look at the other comments. also saying that it swings to far to the other side is your opinion and maybe a few others as well however the dev chose that design for a specific audience. To say video games are not meant to be a reinforcement of it is just iggnorant as 1 of the most popular genres ever created are literally simulators which are dedsigned to do just that. if someone doesnt like the game thats fine and dandy , to each there own. also a game doesnt have to have a map to be good or even great. lol. man this new generation is something else. the game already sold over a million copies haha. so clearly it is not a flop
"of the most popular genres ever created are literally simulators" Yeah that's BS and you know it." Walking simulator" is used as a derogatory term for a reason. Simulators USED to be popular but they aren't anymore because people realized that videogames are meant to be an escape from the real world, not an enforcement of it. And it's not an opinion, it's a fact that this game swings too far to the other side to the point of not having QOL options. A game doesn't have to NOT have a map to be challenging. The problem is try hard bitches who think having a map equals the game holding your hand, that is looser mentality. Also I never ONCE said the game flopped, don't put words in my mouth
Yeah not really my kind of game. Combat looks dull and repetitive, not enough enemy variety, the story doesn't sound all that interesting and while the game prides itself for "not holding the player's hand", it doesn't even have a map or an in game journal. I'm gonna pass on this one but hey, if you're the kind of gamer who enjoys not having anything to guide you whatsoever, this is definitely the game for you.
Yeah, I'm all for not holding your hand and stuff, but this is way too far a swing of the pendulum the other way. No maps for those huge areas is a dumb idea, and I hope no one else tries to copy this.
If this game is successful, someone will. Not to mention that the lack of any kind of guidance is what is being praised the most about this game, as far as I've seen at least
These are the exact kind of brain dead ass comments people laugh at now when looking at old reviews for Demon Souls and Dark Souls before people realized they weren't just rage games. This game does exactly what it's trying to do very well. You're just too sheltered by other games to put up with it.
Right, so, I don't like a game that in the spectrum of "holding your hand" and "letting you do your thing" goes too far into the "letting you do your thing" side without considering that a map isn't holding your hand and that makes me too sheltered? It doesn't matter if it does what it's trying to do well or not, I don't like what it's trying to do because it factually goes too far the opposite direction of holding your hand. It doesn't make me too sheltered, it just means I have my own tastes and last time I checked, people are entitled to having their own tastes. Heck, I'm not even criticizing the people that enjoy this type of game, if you like it more power to ya. The only sad person here are losers like you you instantly jump to personal attacks when people DARE have a different opinion than yours. Kinda like die hard Souls fans now that I think about it, no wonder you brought that franchise up. Oh also, "You're just sheltered by other games" that is the EXACT same pathetic argument die hard Souls fans brought up when people said they didn't like Souls games. You people are amazing in your consistent idiocy
A lot of the whole "retro games were hardcore" comes from people who have only played them on emulators. Most games came with manuals that explained a lot of stuff because thats just how things were done back then.
The instruction manuals were like tutorials of how to play the game. They didn't hold your hand with mini-maps and destination markers a lot of games do today.
Yes, manuals were tutorials but most of the games were intuitive enough that you could figure out how to play them without the need for said manuals. Plus the VAST majority of them are linear enough that you don't need minimaps or destination markers so comparing that to the overly complicated games of today isn't really a fair comparison. Also maps(mini or otherwise) aren't a hand holding mechanic, they're a QOL mechanic. Heck, even FF1 had a world map and that game is notorious for not holding your hand whatsoever. Also regarding manuals, it wasn't every game that could keep all it's tutorials confined to the manual. Simple, less complex games like platformers or action adventure games could but big RPGs? Hell no. Chrono Trigger had in game tutorials in the first area, Pokemon had the whole Pokemon catching tutorial and even Final Fantasy had the whole beginners school in the first town you visit(Though I don't remember which one started that tradition. I wanna say it was either 3 or 4 but I'm not sure). But even all of those were optional(Well, except the Pokemon one)
I've just started, but I think this is the full game, as it includes the Deluxe version skins and the artbook...although the first part is the same as the demo.
So basically every game over 20 years ago?
