It runs really slow for me, not the 2fps thing that's solved by the fixed that has been kindly linked in the comments, the game is just weird and unresponsive. Aiming is really slow to an absolutely unplayable state and characters' lines are delayed. Is there a fix for this?

you prolly downloaded the .exe... that was the trojan... if you clicked a few more times, a .zip file will download instead of an .exe file... The .exe file is the legit Halo 2 file

Happens a lot actually. These files are really not virus infected, I can tell you at least that. I've got over 30 false positives, all of which i've set as allowed, since I started using this site over two years ago and to this day I've never had an issue. Just make sure you allow the correct files, don't overlook a file that is not from the game, that could actually be a virus you know.

Guys. For all of you that complain because it won't run on Windows 7 or 10...keep in mind that there is a thing called COMPATIBILITY MODE! Right click on the desktop icon, go to properties, click on the compatibility tab, check the appropriate box, check Windows Vista. Boom, problem solved.
I downloaded Halo 2 (both parts) straight from the Google Drive link, copied the two parts to a created folder, Extracted the 1st zip file to it's created folder, and mounted the Halo 2 .iso to my F:/ drive, Ran the setup file & Game (successful). Go back into the redist folder. There are two things you need to set up. The first one is xLive Redist, and depending if you have a 32 or 64 bit drive, the one titled wllogin_--. For example, I have a 64-bit system, so I installed wllogin_64. Then it will run just fine.

HELLO! I know many people have been having issues with CD-Key but I found a work-around that worked for me. When it goes to "Sign-Up" with all of the text going about agreements you can scroll down a tiny bit. There is a blue link for "Create a local account" - by using this instead of sign up for a proper LIVE account it lets you play the game with the CD-Key. From there you can play the first mission and so on... Hope this helps!

except microsoft deactivates them after every 9th use, so after that it's not good anymore. Keygens don't work on that one because they only go off the existing key logs. There are websites with hundreds of codes that can still be used, I found one with 272 codes in it, but won't it be easier just to provide a crack instead of typing in 272 different codes?

So apparently this is halo 2 specialized specifically for windows vista. Don't know why anyone would be stupid enough to post this during 2015, much less without telling anyone about the fact that it is unplayable on anything later then windows XP.
I realize you posted this 2 years ago but after running into the mouse lag I found out it's caused by the game running at too high a frame rate. If you run a frame limiter like RivaTuner and set the frame limit at 60, then the mouse lag goes away. The game runs perfectly on a modern system with Windows 10.
I'm gonna try it in the morning. I'm getting Halo: Combat Evolved now. Plus, I'm quite a bit tired. In the meantime check for compatibility issues and perhaps you have to block its access to the internet.
Blocking access to the internet doesn't work. You need it or it won't let you move on. It will literally exit out if you get out of the live setup. Compatability issues are easy to fix. Just turn the compatability mode on for Windows Vista. I did that before I ran it and it's fine, no issues there. However, if daemontools has a setup for this one, I'd like to know about it.
