If I start FantasyKommanderEW, a window flashes then quit, with eventviewer reporting a PCA2 error.
If I try to start FKWEWRHelper.application, it say some files/dir were missing, which are visible in the directory.

I then try to recreate the dir structure and move the files around, and then start FantasyKommanderEW. Now the game seeming launches, but only showes an idle black screen (no sound)

Is the dir structure intact? Or maybe there were cmd arguments in a normal app launch that got lost in this distribution? Anyway, I cannot get it to start.

You need to run the instructions in the .vdf file. The .vdf file is plain text. You can open it with notepad. You need to input the license key in the registry following what is in the .vdf file.

Thanks for the tip, it works now.

To be more precise, save the following text in notepad, as a file with extension *.reg
Then double click the file to add this to the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Matrix Games\FantasyKommanderEW]
"authorized"="7162-8629-3073-1255"

-===============================-
Then the game can start normally.

After some testing I noticed that the serialreg.txt that came with the release should not be deleted. It is not a reminder file.

Also you should try to run the game in a lower resolution, or reading would be strainful, because this old game from 2013 was not designed for large screens.
=-------------------------------------------------=
For the game itself, the bgm pauses when there is in-game speech...rather odd to publish the game in this state. Though AgeOfGames seems to be just a small group of hobbyists, so I'm not gonna judge too harshly.
