From someone who bought the game on day one and would encourage you to do the same if you have the cash, Evenicle 2 has a much larger budget than the first and is more streamlined than Rance. I think you're really going to like it. The scenes are far more vanilla than what we expect from Alicesoft though and yes, natively mosaiced. Alicesoft has done this twice already with Dohna Dohna which I hated, and now this one.
Evenicle 2 is on par with any big budget JRPG that has come out recently, as long as it is in the classic battle style (as opposed to ARPG).
Hell yeah I'm going to shill for them. They're a great company. They've made some of the best JRPG's out there. And boyfriend's wife people don't play these kinds of games because "the characters look like children" and "aggressive sexual content" so you're wrong there, chief. i agree, i usually spend about 10 hours on a pirate and if i have the money and really enjoy it like i did with Rimworld and Valheim i usually buy it and play like a few hundred hours or in Rimworlds case a thousand hours and still play it to this day XD
This wasn't an impulse buy for me. You see, the game was on preorder since January. I pre-ordered it because not only is the original game finished and everything has been patched, but the localization was done by guys that know what the fuck they're doing. I knew what to expect from the game having played Evenicle 2 Rance (the Japanese only DLC bonus for the game). So I was already familiar with the story and battle system. And that has been translated for YEARS. So people already knew what to expect here. This isn't a "try before you buy because it may be broken" situation. The game's already guaranteed to work, it does, and the community loves it.
So we did all the work before pre-ordering the game and we're happy with it.
Just because you know "in your heart" that this is a good quality game and know what to expect, doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. Suggesting they buy it just on your word when we can try it out first is just ridiculous. Sure, if you were "in tight" with the localization team, and you already knew everything about the game beforehand, you might be warranted in buying it day one. But for everyone else, i.e. not a shill, you should always research and play a demo of a game before you buy it. to do otherwise is potentially throwing money away, and most of us don't have a lot to throw away.
I'm not telling you that you shouldn't try it out. There's a demo on Steam for free which offers most of the gameplay elements. Right now, it's the top selling game on Jast USA and reached up there high with MangaGamer too. This isn't about being a "shill" it's about being a fan of high quality eroge JRPG's, of which there are not very many in English to begin with. Not that the Kagura stuff is bad, but we all are aware of the Alicesoft level of quality given the Rance games which have a massive popularity.

The Steam "Demo" is a pretty bad marketing tactic to convince people to buy the JAST one. And as you say, it's a neutered demo, making a demo of the real game much more informative.

Look at Cyberpunk, or Elden Ring, with their day one patches that still didn't fix the problems. look at Sqyare-Enix's crappy, low effort ports and endless remakes. Plus all the anti-consumer shit out there like no real demos (an all-ages, neutered demo of an eroge isn't a demo), and NA releases usually worse than their JP ones, with more censorship or removed features. Sure, maybe Alicesoft and JAST aren't too anti-consumer (though the mosiacs certainly doesn't help their cause), but as I said before, any consumer who buys blindly or on the advice of a rando on a piracy site is beyond foolish.

For those curious to the content, it is far more tame than the first. Alicesoft was definitely trying to go for a more mainstream angle with this one. All of the rape is listed as "comedy rape" which means it isn't taken seriously and doesn't have the same kind of impact as in other games.

They're just doing it like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest now where every game will be different from the last. Can't blame them, it's formula that works.
They stole the very idea of humanity facing extinction due to wild monsters from Legend of Legaia, a PSX game. Play that instead if you actually want a gameplay experience.
To be fair, Humans vs Monsters and extinction is already a common trope in literature. Its gonna be a matter of time before someone pulls off their own spin of the trope.
The graphics are better here though. And it doesn't have the medica system, which is pretty unique to the genre. Your characters can become sick from performing too many spells and you have to heal them. That adds a new level of difficulty to these kinds of games.
