That's not true. Some games have LAN and some even have dedicated servers.

That's not true tho' , in modern games it is really rare to find those, but back in the days there were a few games that you could download and can play online (and even came with bunch of hack like wallhack and such)
And not to mention Hamachi, but that's a different type of online.
