BTW, usually, the reason people often encounter errors when updating is because their C:\ drive doesn't have enough space. Specifically, since I use xdelta, it uses the default windows temporary directory (usually the C:\ drive) to create temporary files before applying them to the game directory. That's why if the C:\ drive doesn't have enough space, the file will get a corrupt message.

You didn't apply the crack. When you install the game there's an option in the installer to automatically apply the crack. If you didn't do that then go into the ISO, open the PLAZA folder and copy the folder inside onto the install directory

when you download it you need to put the crack in the installation folder. If you dont add the crack to the game it indeed checks your steam if you have bought the game
ok first you download something from utorrent. thats the installation. then you open a disc image which should look like a new drive installed in your pc. on that image there should be a setup and a folder which contains the crack. The files that are in this folder need to be put where you install the game (so where you select the game to be downloaded in the Setup). If u did it correctly it should ask for some files to be replaced. you need to replace all those files and it should work. I am currently still downloading so if you cant figure it out i should be able to help you later on!
Torrenting is the easiest way to avoid the annoying ads from the split downloading(megaup) and the fastest way to download a new game upload. I'd only use the split file download links if it has been several weeks since the initial upload date since that's when torrents start slowing down due to not enough people seeding.
Took me about an hour in total to download this 46gb torrent vs constantly wasting time over waiting on the split file links and then the slow limited download speeds that takes at least 10mins for one split 5gb file from those sites.
It would take close to 2 hours to download all those files split separately versus just cutting down the time in half by torrenting.
all the games files are spread out amongst multiple parts so there isn't just one part with the crack files in them you'll have to reextract the entire game to get the crack files back

Tried editing the steam_emu.ini but it won't save the changes I made. Error says that I don't have permission to edit files. Already tried the solutions posted online by clicking properties-security and uncheck Run as administrator but error still persists.
Another more complex process would be to right click the folder of the game and revoke ownership of the current owner and put them on yourself. But doing what "Cockgobbler" said works very well, as well as moving the .ini outside of that folder, editing it and then placing it back in.

i never had issues with updates before but i have issue with this "bat" update when the previous game update use .exe, the base game works fine and thankfully they uploaded the v1.03 full game download but the updates for this game is disastrous
To me a 'loud minority' is about 10-12 people who don't want to wait 5 minutes for their game to update, so they keep closing it before it's finished and not being able to play.

Check through the comments for a list of the updates. You might be missing an intermittent update. Admittantly i tried twice boefore realizing that was the issue.
That would mean that you installed it incorrectly. Make sure you read the "How To Install" when you try to install an update, make sure you are dropping the contents into the Elden Ring folder and NOT the Game folder (that is a common mistake) and make sure you also run the patch as administrator. I think I know where the big issue is coming from. When I patched the game the first time, I had issues. It wasn't until I ran the patch itself as Administrator that the patch properly worked for me. Maybe include "run as administrator" in your "How To Install" document.

You are doing it wrong. Copy files from "update" to "ELDEN RING" and run the bat file, then wait. At the end it will ask you to press Y or N. You have to press N and then copy the crack files.

Nah man. Run the .bat again. It will ask you about corrupted files. Pres "Y" and it will restore all files to normal. Then try again; You don't have to download the whole game again.

I tried this, and the controller can't do anything in the menu, it even bugs out and cant go back to main screen after going into settings. It shows as if the controller is pluged in (shows like the buttons on the bottom of the settings) but won't do anything
Tested with 8bitdo's sn30pro, sn30pro+, xbox one s, and switch pro controllers(betterjoyforcemu using hidguardian drivers) on Windows 11. Haven't had any controller issues with Elden Ring, however I seen people say using HidHide to hide certain devices help with the controller issue that you are having.
To update the games you need to copy and past on the game folder the entire the update folder "ELDEN.RING.Update.Only.v1.02.2\Update\Game" except the file "Data0.bhd" because this file blocks the games in white screen and it will be good, in any case I its a walk

So, the Updates are definitely working. I had to uninstal my game casue of the White Screen Error. But after clean instalation, only pasting Update folder content to Elden Ring folder and start all the ExEs, starting from update -> patch -> Hpatchz -> elden_ring_update_v1.02.2. DO NOT copy crack from it. Go to another update v1.02.3. Do it again, just like previous one. Than copy Crack folder content to GAME folder, overwrite the files. Updates 1.03.0 same but without crack. Update 1.03.1 same but with Crack folder files paste to the GAME folder. In steam emu ini file you can change language as you pleasd. Hope I helped you. You had to do something wrong in the process. Like pasting files in to the wrong folder can cause it. I know it from my mistakes -.- so I had to do a reinstalation of whole game, and than i figure it out like I mention earlier. Just uninstal the game. Delete all game files if any left. Do a clean new instalation. After this, just open ELDEN RING folder and you should see only 3 things. "GAME" folder, unins000 DAT file, unins000 EXE. Paste all the files from UPDATE folder right there. Fallow instructions ^
data0.bdt has failed !! Error! rest works flawlessly still results in a whitescreen trying to start it doing all the steps on a clean install for the 2nd time now. win 10 no background stuff running and always running as admin the processes ... im at a loss and quite flabbergasted , IGG should just do a current patch full download with the newest version so many people are haveing issues and even legit ones since newest patch lmao
Always start all EXE files in order like in instruction, after pasting files from each Update to the Elden Ring folder, not "game" folder in Elden Ring folder. So update 1.02.2 all exe in order. After patch, they will dissaper so you can go to patch 1.02.3 again start all exe in order, and again and again.

The white screen error actually appears when you misplace the installation file. I tried putting it in the wrong place, and I got the same white screen error as you said...

Install UPDATE v1.02.2 (follow instructions as pinned comment) (also, you probably don't need to copy/paste files in "crack" folder, it doesn't matter, just saves time)
Install UPDATE v1.02.3, as far as I can remember, this update seems to be too small, so no need to install, you just need to copy all the files in the "update" folder and overwrite them in the folder. game installed item
Install UPDATE v1.03: Do the same with v1.02.2
Install UPDATE v1.03.1: Do the same with v1.02.2. Finally copy all the files in the "crack" folder and paste them into the game folder. Enjoy ;)

Yo instale todas las versiones por orden y funcionaron. la versión 1.02.2 la instalé donde ponía la imagen del moderador, en cambio la versión 1.02.3 la instalé dentro de la carpeta de game que coincide con archivos y los reemplace. tanto para la versión 1.03.0 como la versión 1.03.01 la instalé de la misma forma que la versión 1.02.2.
Same here data0bd failed but rest okay then probably whitescreen i´ll see after it is done , followed all the methods , uninstalled already once , not sure if i´ve the patience to do it again when i´m already done but want to test out new stuff and how the performance has changed.
The update need a lot of space on your HDD/SSD for decompress and create the new files ( that are the same size of the complete game) , you need to have minimum of 50/60 gb free on your disk to avoid error, it's possibly your problem .
The erro i got only in 1.03.1 update. The game ran fine before this update. i did it in the disk having more than 100gb space still it threw the same data0 error. Now i can't even play my game since my save file had been updated somehow and the game need the latest version when i reinstalled saying "Game version and save version are different". yo instale por orden todas las actualizaciones y la carpeta comprimida patch.exe y la update.exe le di a extraer aqui, con el winrar, después ejecuté el archivo bat. La carpeta con los archivos de steam_emu, etc en cambio los reemplace dentro de la carpeta game donde ya existen eso archivos, espero que te ayude. Sólo para la actualización 1.02.3 la instale de otra forma que fue sustuir los archivos en la carpera game del juego que coincide con el mismo nombre.

Everyone here is saying that if you put in UPDATE v1.03.1, you will get "all patches from v1.02.2 to v1.03.1". This is a misconception.
In fact, that is what I thought. But it is not true.
If it is a normal game, you don't need to think about it because it will update automatically even if it is a distant version.
However, this is a "manual update patch". You have to go through the steps.
You have to start updating from the version you are playing.
Since the version of my game was V1.02 You need to start the Bat program with UPDATEv1.02.2, UPDATE v1.02.3, UPDATE v1.03, UPDATE v1.03.1 and place them as they are pinned.
This is where it starts to get important. Do not just extract update.exe in the update folder and overwrite it. If you have done the above you will get a white screen.
Why does this happen? 【This is because the bdt file containing the existing game data does not contain the PATCH data.】
The one in update.exe is called "bhd file", which is another file. It will not start even if it is that new.
The bat program is for adding PATCH data to the existing data (bdt file).
Therefore, it is located in the update folder .ELDEN_RING_Update_v1.xxx. XX.bat in the update folder.
If the question comes up, press Y, overwrite game with the data in the folder FilesNew, expand update.exe, overwrite game with that data, and it will work.

Yea its hard to understand i didnt got it when i updated with the first 2 updates. But all u have to do is put it in the Install folder and use the exe there.

After it, disable all anti virus if you have (or give exception in the elden ring file), launch .bat with admin right,
After it, copy all file in "crack" folder and put in in "elden right" folder.

La carpeta con los archivos de steam_emu, etc en cambio los reemplace dentro de la carpeta game donde ya existen eso archivos, espero que te ayude.
Sólo para la actualización 1.02.3 la instale de otra forma que fue sustuir los archivos en la carpera game del juego que coincide con el mismo nombre.

You have to go through the steps.
You have to start updating from the version you are playing.
Since the version of my game was V1.02
You need to start the Bat program with UPDATEv1.02.2, UPDATE v1.02.3, UPDATE v1.03, UPDATE v1.03.1 and place them as they are pinned.
This is where it starts to get important.
Do not just extract update.exe in the update folder and overwrite it.
If you have done the above you will get a white screen.
Why does this happen?

first 2 patched fine, the rest 3 didn't (no anti virus installed)
