The graphic is good, the setting is good, but the balance is... should I say does not exist? I find the balance to be very "off". The higher difficulty option is not necessarily harder, or may actually be easier than the lower difficulty.
The growth is also not scaled very well; you can't really outgrow the base stats of your mon (monster) compared to your opponent, so you are always better off catching the opponent mon instead of killing it. Just like in a CIV game, you win by cleverly rearranging modifiers, not by base stats. But if you want to arrange the modifier, you need to let the unique modifier appear first. A higher difficulty game has a higher chance for a unique modifier to appear. So that means a higher difficulty run is actually easier to win because you will be more likely to find unique and powerful modifiers to merge, and you can rearrange modifiers in more interesting ways.
And the game is quite short, just when you can get some interesting modifier with some perma buff, the game abruptly ends. It just gives you a feeling that you can never outgrow your opponent, and even if you win, you win mostly by luck. There's no consistent winning strategy, even if you play perfectly.
I would advise waiting until it receives a couple of balance patches before playing. So far, it gives me a Wildfrost type of feeling, or maybe I am too used to the Monster Train 2 level of exponential growth. (I had a run with 7500 * 28 + sweep Dante on my recent run lol)
Beat it on my first run... The game shouldn't be so easy that you beat it on first try.
It offers difficulty modes but I would've preferred an endless, or at least 3 stages like the norm to find out if anything could ever challenge my build.
I recommend playing on normal difficulty instead of easy. The reason for this is that when you choose easy mode, you face more penalties due to fewer powerful modifiers appearing in the lower difficulty. Additionally, the HP for the final boss isn't significantly different when playing on higher difficulties. Ultimately, playing on a higher difficulty can make the game easier. I've provided a more in-depth explanation in the comment above. I just find the game's balance to be quite off.
Yeah, I actually beat it on every difficulty and modes except for the endless mode which is a grind to even unlock.
The updates fixed some of the balancing issues but the main issue is that it gets repetitive real quick and it's not a genuine roguelite so you're back to square one with 1 extra artwork unlocked.

God-tier sound design btw.
