I caved in and bought the steam version, because I figured I could just return it if it actually sucked. I was really surprised. You have to forgive the utterly shit AI, but that also makes higher difficulty levels more fun. It's a complex, lightweight, snarky little bitch of a Deus-Ex-Lite-Lite-Grunge-X. Pay the dev. It's just $20. Skip a pizza night this month.
Not a single person spamming about new version here? What the hell? I see people always spam in the wrong place for far shittier games like crapfield and call of boredom. lmao
It's because the people dumb enough to not know that you only request updates in the Request page aren't really the crowd that would enjoy Cruelty Squad hahahaha
Come on, there is got to be more people playing this game than just this... Nobody else putting requests for an update but me and one other dude, shaaaame
Alright, quick review: This game is... interesting. Let me get this straight; if you're not at least somewhat nostalgic and appreciative of the culture and era this game indirectly revolves around, you'll probably find it too weird or janky to be worth your time. And even with that covered, the game has noticeable flaws and issues. Still, there's a good amount of enjoyment to be had; as a game it's competent enough most of the time, with the handful of different approaches to each mission and the character progression packed into a simplified stealth-action nutshell. As an experience, it's a fun look back and a bag of weirdness that usually keeps on giving, with stuff like the stock market, which seems like a joke mechanic but ends up being somewhat useful as you find out you can sell the organs of fallen enemies or the fish you can catch if you find the secret fishing rod. Fair warning if you've got a history of strong reactions, personal issues or difficulty with intense discomfort though; this game has a lot of things that are either accidentally or intentionally uncomfortable and weird as part of its aesthetic, theme, atmosphere, etc. Anyways, the game's pretty light and quick to get into so if you're still doubting give it a try. After the first 1 or 2 missions you'll know for sure if it's your cup of tea or not.
