like a mix of freedom force, xcom, and midnight suns. Done by indie group. (and this putting it nicely and with the most known things)
Its much more "modern" and also modern as in lower effort, so more like the "Xcom" Chimera Squad and Lamplighter's League.
Also game has no map/ant farm (upgrade base)/events/items of any kind including gear
And is mostly a forced puzzle and grind then a play how you want and worry about risk + reward.
(leveling= just the right to unlock more abilities which you get with limited challenges both on characters where they get like mmo do 20 back stabs or having each character do 50 combos with each other character, and on map which is the most forced puzzle part where especially if not on casual and even on casual you must play the puzzle the exact way or you won't complete all the challenges) (grind= replaying the same missions for the 1-3xp/50 you need to get from level 3-4 and idk about 5 and to accomplish the challenges you failed before).
And we discover that they hired Sweet Baby Inc which usually means they focused more on virtue signalling rather than gameplay and we can already see it from the mile away because the game is just bad.
Their concept has the potential but the gameplay just sucks so much.
No its a modern game, they make sure you play modern types and beat up modern "bad guys"
ie the normal white guy is old and grizzled and is just your boss and "dated" and does nothing (guy on right in pic) while rest as you can also tell from pic are diverse cast with some cringe lines at times. Though I have only played a little and not seen the massive cringe and forced agenda that tv/movies do, ie still waiting too see if a robot comes out and says "my pronouns are".
But ya you get crippled smart foreigner, gal with The hair cut, 2 two you see in pic are the starters, etc...
O but should add if you spend the extra over priced support edition (which this is) you get 1 recolor to everyone's outfit (and not matching even though that at least would have made sense and been interesting).
that's a shame, was looking superheroes/supervillain themed xcom-like games with character customisations, bonus points if it had headquartes building features.
if you dont mind really old game and challenging and closer to a marvel ultimate alliance rpg then Freedom Force has terrific outside animation customization and mods to look like all sorts of characters. (I just did not like how difficult it is so quit it for that reason, but 100% has great customization including making own powers though again with its age they are not fancy looking at all and more on effect + numbers )
