Infuriating near-death sound effect. Irritating Middle East music. Subpar graphics, even for retro visuals. Tedious going back and forth for several hours. Uninteresting plot, setting and characters. Yet another fucking Metroidvania Play at your own risk.
I don't know what the fuck you are talking about. The OST is great. But yes...about the gameplay, I expected WAY more. At least on par with the first one, but they made a totally different game.
Not as good as first one so far. Also, many other great Metroidvania games have been released in the past few years, outclassing Axiom Verge in every way. And this one doesn't seem much like an improvement, so... Still need to play more to know if it's a keeper. ๐ค
I progressed a bit. At some point, you control some kind of drone thing and everything looks 8-bit and weird... lol On a side note, it's funny the developer said he wanted to make this sequel more accessible, I find it much harder. And to answer my previous comment, so yeah it's not a keeper for me. Too many annoyances in general. And even weirder, it's apparently not optimized much and make my gaming rig get hot sometimes...
Kunai is trash. The literal namesake of the game is barelly utilized and isn't level design friendly. Every area is the same, combat is tedious, instakill in half the rooms, fuck that game.
Easy the best recent metroidvanias 1)blasphemous 2)the recent "Grime" that came out a few days ago is a banger 3) Sundered 4)hollowknight 5)CARRION(short sweet banger) 6) deadcells was fire but it was more a rogue like than metroidvania the rest all suck but by far the besr metroidvania you can play besides hollowknight and blasphemous is "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" also i hear Ori and the Blind Forest is good but i got like 15 min n got bored so i cant say for sure
I'm curious about that too and after looking through recentish games tagged as metroidvanias in Steam the following seem like potentially interesting: Blasphemous, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Grime, Vigil: The Longest Night, CARRION, Rogue Legacy 2, ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights and Unbound: Worlds Apart. Lost Ruins, Midnight Castle Succubus DX and Tower and Sword of Succubus are decent ones I've played recently though none of them are super amazing imho. Also worth mentioning that Hollow Knight, AM2R and Rabi-Ribi were released after Axiom Verge 1 so he could be referring to them.
man that was fun from start to finish took me a week to get 95% completion anyone here can share their 100% map save? i finished the final boss but i still cant get to [coordiantes 11,11] in the breach on the overworld this part of the map is offsetted to you can't go back using halam item
Edit: bug report just tested some features/buttons don't work without a controller the next map/previous map dosen't work even after i changed the keyboard binding the only way to quit the game is by pressing the win key and closing it on taskbar when using x360ce the skills bar and menu shows up fine
Someone else having the same problem as me? After some hours of gameplay it stopped working and I simply can't play the story mode anymore. When I try to enter in the story mode from the main menu, the game is forced to close, every single time. The Speedrun mode works fine. I have unninstalled, installed again. Tried the Registry, for no avail. Can't play it anymore.
Going into windows firewall and creating a new rule to block the app from all inbound and outbound connections so it can't open the epic page has solved the problem for me.
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer me Siphon. I was surprised me that no one commented that I had the same incident. I'm going to test the solution with windows firewal and see if I can fix it!
Did Not Work This Firewall Method didn't work., first it was asking for epic signup now as firewall blocks it it is giving .netframework error.what to do any one help here please
This just happened to me as well - I played it for a few hours and then trying to open it back up again leads to the epic games website which asks me to sign in.
Yes, PS4 controller with DS4Windows. I did have a weird issue at first where when I changed the the settings so it showed the Playstation buttons on screen the controller stopped responding. But then it worked when I quit and restarted.
First game was great, but really not feeling this one so far. I've been running around with an ice axe and boomerang for an hour and combat with these 2 sucks. I like the additional skills like taking over platforms and the little drone, but until I get some better weapons I'm not enjoying combat at all.
I say stick with it. You get basically the charge shot from Metroid around an hour in. Although its weird in that it uses your axe but hey I am not complaining about getting a decent ranged option! I would recommend saving all about 8 upgrade points to put 2 levels into hacking because you need that to get the ranged ability. Sounds like you are close to it already if you can hack so you quit just a little bit too soon.
Haven't finished the game but from the looks of it and the news floating around, your guess is more likely correct. AV2 is intended to be more accessible with less diversity in terms of locales and combat. AV1 took about 15 hours to complete. I've heard people completing AV2 in less than 8 hours.
I think both games are worth the time of those who are into Metroidvanias. (I want to add 'objectively' to this sentence but I won't) Broadly speaking, there are two paths a developer will take for a sequel after a successful game:
Give fans more of the same while emphasizing the aspects they loved; i.e. bigger maps, more/harder bosses, more elaborate systems. Fans will love you more, but you run the risk of limiting your audience even more.
Use the existing structure/name/fame to expand the prospective domain by simplifying some stuff and removing the controversial aspect of the previous game. Sometimes even rebooting basic mechanics of the first game. More people will play your game, but your fandom will probably not like that. Usually, the smaller the dev team the more they are inclined to take the first route ... to protect and honor their initial vision. And since Axiom Verge was effectively a one-man project I was expecting the first path. But clearly, I was wrong.
My philosophy is to always take the first route, especially if a game takes off. That's already a big audience. The "wider audience" game is only a good idea if you only want money and don't care about making a real impression on gaming as a whole, and that's just a road that leads to the likes of Bobby Kotick. I'm sure this'll still be good but it's a damn shame.
You DO feel me! p.s. I'll be done with the game in a short while. My initial discontent is a bit balanced now. Overall, it's an acceptable experience compared to the first one, but I'd say definitely not as good. It was somewhat expected.
I'd totally buy since I played and replayed the first so many times, but damn, EGS exclusive? Not even available on gamejolt or itchio?? That's a no for me, as sad as it is.
Oh wow, suddenly, it's less annoying! Good lord... it's still terrible... it was terrible in old NES titles and is removed in "Zelda Classic" for a reason.
When it comes to this, the game fails to even look like a NES game. Again, "Zelda Classic" has the option to turn it off for a reason... and it basically is the first Zelda with an included level editor. Does "Shovel Knight" has such a dumb "mechanic"? Cause this game tried to be authentic when it comes to "feeling like a NES game".
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the decision; just explaining the dev's reasoning. Shovel Knight was miles better at capturing an older game's feel. Felt like a more acrobatic Wonder Boy in a way.
Yeah, but even with such a reasoning, maybe he should've provided basic options for this. I mean, imagine every Indie-2D-Game would force their CRT filter on you. Really? Wonder Boy? Phew, that's hard to see for me, cause the pogo-move reminded me more of "Ducktales"... and the whole treasure collecting thing. ^^ Maybe a bit "Wizzards & Warriors" mixed in. Well, the NES game of course... not whatever the hell popped up in google right now...
Wtf? o.O I was really curious... Imagine getting offended by this. facepalm Next time, I make a dumb face, like 12 year olds need... "Really? :o Wonderboy? o.o Please tell me more! :3" Even when it seems like there is a normal person here, between all the trash, turns out it's just a part of it.
Yeah Phil, I don't think Marco was really being hostile with the Wonder Boy remark. Y'all don't know each other, but no need to end the conversation all muddy. For the record, Wonder Boy does seem like a bit of a poor example to compare with Shovel Knight, but you both didn't seem like one was trying to offend the other.
Won't be the first time someone just did a copy paste of requirements but never correctly updated the numbers. I've even seen that for games on official sites. The best of course will say "1gb to install, 300mb to play." due to temporary files.
Irritating Middle East music.

The going back and forth is the whole point to a Metroidvania. And you say "yet another" as if you didn't know what Axiom Verge (1) is. ๐คจ

2)the recent "Grime" that came out a few days ago is a banger
3) Sundered
4)hollowknight
5)CARRION(short sweet banger)
6) deadcells was fire but it was more a rogue like than metroidvania
the rest all suck
but by far the besr metroidvania you can play besides hollowknight and blasphemous is "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night"

Better compression or is this gonna be shorter?
first game its pretty much the same size as this
