I still sometimes play Legendary Guardian today, it's one of my favorite NES games.

The music is pretty good, but I must have heard the 2nd stage's chase phase bgm in some other games...? I am pretty sure it was used somewhere else... some ninja-themed action game...? That's the only weird part, reused bgm.

Game didn't seem as fast-paced as the trailer depicted until I realize (game also explicitly stated) that frame rate affects game speed. Dialing from my preferred 30 back to the default 60 did make a difference. (BTW, what's 100, even 1000 fps for? it's impossible to play...)

A bit of a shame is that by mixing 2 genres, both were not developed enough. The map of the exploration phase is too linear, and the chase phase felt too simple/short. If you really want to do blending, go all in, for example, Blast Master which blends 2 points of view, but in either view the maps were non-trivial.
That said, the game is enjoyable nonetheless.
