Note to anyone who's having a message about the game needing to connect to Steam (or needing to be updated via Steam, etc).
The solution is simple: use a firewall to block the main executable file ("Abalon.exe") - make sure you block both outbound and inbound.
Any firewall will do, it does not have to be "Windows Firewall". If you have any security suite that includes a firewall, that will work just fine.
If you don't have a firewall, or don't want to use one (for whatever reason), you can also just unplug your PC from your internet connection (or shutdown your wifi). As long as the game can't access the internet, you can play it just fine.
I remember a similar issue from the previous version months ago.
I managed to fix it by preventing the app from connecting to the internet. You need to create a new firewall outbound rule that prevents it from connecting. which sounds complicated but isnt all that difficult
I am on Windows 10 and here it was like this: Settings > firewall and network protection > advanced settings > outbound rules > new rule > program > give path to the abalon app launcher > block the connection > check everything and click next > name it something > done
You can definiately find a better explanation online but maybe this will help someone
For those having trouble even after creating an outbound rule in windows firewall, I've found that I had to go to my Antivirus' firewall settings and block the app there to actually block the game's internet connection. No need to use windows firewall if you have an antivirus that manages firewall settings (it does not work anyway). Just a heads up.
