I have two questions: can I use the Merv 14 filter with the NorthBox6XL …….the one that comes ready made ? Hi Dan, Did you consider using the SickleFlow 120 fans found in the Clean Air Kits XL for the North Box Systems 6XL? It seems the SickleFlow fans provide more cleaning power (CADRs), are quieter, more energy efficient and can also work with 3M MERV 14 MPR 2500 filters without a substantial reduction in cleaning power (Clean Air Kits website indicates a ~5% reduction in CADR). I will be using the MERV 14 filters going forward as they can remove more virus particles than MERV 13 filters.
This particular 6XL is designed for 140mm but I do want to test some of the PC-Fans from Cooler Master as I think that your right and you could get even better performance. Will also keep an eye on the 3M 2500 filters so we can test out what effect they have.
I think the big improvement would be to add a PWM controller and find the sweet spot with different fan brands for performance and sound!

You can use MERV 14 although the performance may be slightly lower than what you get with MERV 13.
