With such a big space, you will need a large device or multiple units. For large models, I would look into the Smart Air Blast and Mini and the Coway Airmega Pro X. The IQAir Atem X is also very high CADR and also comes with a ton of extra features, but does cost quite a bit more. Some other options worth looking at: https://housefresh.com/air-purifiers-for-allergies/

For the bedroom, I would also consider using a large unit and running it at lower fan speeds, as you will get good performance without the associated noise.

You could also look into the PC fan kits from Clean Air Kits, we have reviewed the Luggable Xl and XL Ultra but they also have larger options with even more fans like their tower of power. These new models offer very high CADR and low sound, but I also know not everyone loves the design. My review if you want to check out: https://housefresh.com/cleanairkits-luggable-xl-review/

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions if you have any.

Hi, I moved into a new built home in Dec and I've been dealing with very strong smells giving me headaches, trouble breathing, eye irrigation, etc. I had a very expensive air quality test done. The TO15. It came back with a red flag of benzene and isopropyl alcohol. I have ventilated the house for days, which makes me feel better, however, there are times I can not ventilate and then I'm still affected by it and continue smelling it. I have viewed your video on the Healthmate purifier. I googled the reviews and read some complaints on it which make me hesitant, however, I am so desperate to find the best solution. Will VOCs eventually go away or am I stuck with this issue. If so, I need to know so I can decide to take this up further with the builder or sell this house! Can you please help?

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this issue in your new home. VOC's should eventually go away but it's hard to know without knowing all the details of the cause...etc

A large carbon filter like the Austin Health mate will help to remove it but it's not good solution long term as you will have to continue to keep replacing the carbon and the VOC's continue long term, costs will build up.

I would recommend taking this up further with the house builder and show them the results of the TO15 as they have are responsible for making this right rather than forcing you to find a high priced solution to a problem they caused.

I just recently purchased the WellisAir Purifier. Have you performed any studies on this method of cleaning the air? Thanks, Marie

Hey Kristin, sorry about your original comment - I did see it, but I'm not sure where it's gone now !nn8 air changes will need 245 cfm, so we would need to run the 5500-2 at full power, which is still quite a bit of sound. You could still get 5 air changes on lower fan speeds of 2-3 with that device. nnIf you wanted 8 air changes for your space and want to run at sound less than 45 dBA, the options would be PC fan kits like the Northbox Systems 6XL or Clean Air Kits XL-7 or AirFanta 3 Pro. For non-PC fans, then you would need the big SmartAir Blast Mini at speed 1. nnThanks for your kind words, and if you need more help, don't hesitate to respond to this comment.

I don't know where my original question went but here goes again! I'm in air purifier paralysis. I have a 230 sq ft, 8ft ceiling, room that I want to try to get to around 8 air changes per hour without running at the highest setting. I like that the Winix 5500-2 has a separate carbon filter and you can turn off the Plasmawave but I don't know that I can get to that amount of air change? Should I just get the Levoit 600S or some other option? Thanks for your resources, they've been very helpful including your YT channel.

Hi Lucy! If smoke is the main issue you're trying to tackle, then I'd recommend you check out our recommendations for VOCs as you will find some more options (including some you mention in your comment) alongside specialized devices that wouldn't make it to our overall list of recommendations: https://housefresh.com/air-purifier-for-vocs/

I discovered that even Air Doctor does not have carbon filter in pellets but in fibers. They claim it is better, but cannot verify, so I am in doubt. Better AirDoctor 2000 version EU amazing air or the cheaper Xiaomi 4 lite with carbon filter in pellets but no true Hepa filter?

I live with my young children in a house which runs on wood fired central heating. Now I know the dangers of being around the smoke we are looking at moving . However in meantime I would like to invest in a really good air purifier. I’m unclear is it suggested that only IQ Air Health Pro Plus is adequate for this type of pollution? Or would Smart Mini Blast or LevoitCore 600S suffice?

The compact doesn't use an ionizer based on the unboxing, and my device connected the first time. It's not good to hear that your device didn't connect even with a QR code.

I saw the video and looking for the others. The only negative for me is that I do not use ionization so I have a lower performance. I think Xiaomi 4compact which I am using and Xiaomi 4 lite do not have ionization. I downloaded the Mi App but it was unable to detect the purifier even manually as QR code did not function.

Can you tell us anything about this new product From Wellisair? It's supposedly has some new technology that destroys molded by eliminating hydrogen and producing H2O. Is it a scam or is this a new technology you should be looking at? Thank you.

Hard to know without doing some hands on testing but from reading online it seems to be that it works by creating hydroxyl radicals that can help with smells and odors but won't do anything for particles in the air.

I personally don't like to avoid any chemical chemistry in my air so even if it does create low levels of ozone I would prefer to stick with activated carbon to remove odors.

But will certainly look to test one of these devices in future when I get a more sensitive ozone sensor so I can test for myself it produces no or low ozone.

Maybe some good purifiers are not tested. For istance Xiaomi 4 compact or the more valid Xiaomi 4 lite are quite good. They do not have true HEPA filter, but neither Levoit has. Additionally they have filter carbon in pellets, 4 lite claims to have 450 gr pellets, better than winix 5300-2. Downside compared to winix but not to levoit is the lack of washable prefilter

I have reviewed a few different Xiaomi models but maybe haven't when this comment was left (sorry!)

Xiaomi 4 Pro
Xiaomi 4 Compact

To be clear the Xiaomi models use a lower grade of filter than True HEPA but it does mean they can get more CADR which is a good thing and I like how Xiaomi is open about this.
