You can change how nasty politicians are. You can vote out the demagogues and refuse to enable or spread their divisive rhetoric even if such rhetoric is advantageous to the pro life argument. The true test of character is when you actually have something to lose by doing the right thing. We get the politicians we deserve when we prioritize winning over treating our fellow citizens with respect and dignity. To paraphrase principle #8, if your worldview is such that sometimes empowering or embracing racism is the right thing, your worldview is flat out wrong.
I do my part by voting out the really stupid ones that make baseless accusations of racism against their political opponents. Most of the time they turn out to be abortion supporters so it works out rather well.
