"Unfortunately, in Asana, you can’t add pre-existing tasks to a parent task as a subtask."

Actually, it is possible.

  1. Add the pre-existing task to the same project as the parent task
  2. Open the project containing the parent task and pre-existing task
  3. Select the parent task so that it is displayed on the right pane
  4. Drag the pre-existing task and drop it into the parent task on the right pane
    Voila!

Ah, thanks for pointing this out. I wrote this post before I shot the video and this is a feature I only recently discovered. Thanks for pointing this out.
