Thanks for the nice article. Are there books you recommend -other than the one you mentioned in the article- about how someone could develop the routine of waking up early? Yes, if you sleep early, you will most likely get up early, but, maybe there are some points about sleeping early with that.

Thanks! The Miracle Morning doesn't necessarily require you to go to sleep early. It's something I like to do to make sure I get a solid amount of sleep, but the main message from the book is that your belief about how you will wake up is far more important than the actual number of hours you sleep. So for example, the author tried getting up on 4, 6 and 9 hours of sleep, each time telling himself the night before that he would wake up feeling excited and energised. And guess what, no matter whether he got 4 or 9 hours sleep, it worked. Super interesting stuff and just goes to show the power of our minds :)

The other night I wrote out what I want to include in the morning and evening routines I would like to start. As for your 3 steps:

  • Currently (as I'm out of work) getting up early for me would be 8am. I've gotten into the habit of sleeping in since I have nowhere to be in the morning, which is not good, so I've been trying to at least start getting up at 8am.
  • I try and set what I want to do the next day the night before but currently that doesn't seem to help as my motivation to do things (since being out of work) is fairly low. I need to focus on changing this and not so much on planning my day the night before since I already kind of do this.
  • I'm trying to get back into meditation but I thought I would add it to my evening routine instead of the morning.

Thanks Morgan. Can I ask, do you have any larger visions or goals of things you'd like to achieve in the next 6 months? What are your goals professionally or personally? When you get clear on this, it's much easier to form your weekly (and daily) goals.

Other than getting a job, can't really say that I have a larger vision or a goal for the next 6 months. I mean there are habits that I would like to include in my day to help with my anxiety, but I don't know if those really count.

I would encourage you to be super specific in regards to the kind of job you're after. What sort of hours would you like to work, where, doing what? In terms of habits they definitely count. I strongly recommend the Headspace app as a way of incorporating some meditation into your routine. I'm confident this will help with your anxiety. :)
