I’ve definitely simplified my morning routine. Walk dog while listening to the Bible, then get an additional 1000-2000 steps - often by jogging in place listening to a short daily podcast, then say a short 3 minute prayer and then write 750 words in my journal. Pretty simple. I have some other things I can add if I have time, but the main thing for me is that it serves me vs my feeling like I exist for my routines.

Sounds great Brett. I think the key thing is to keep is simple and sustainable as you mentioned.

All routines are boring and non-exotic but quite good for our mental. My boring routine is (1) waking up with or without snoozing (2) shower (3) tea (4) make up/hair (5) feeding the cats (6) dressing up even if working from home (7) opening computer (8) preparing a toast or shake and voila! I am trying to add exercice in morning but hard as even keeping exercice after work is as hard especially since working from home!

Pretty similar to me. You're right though. All routines become boring after a while.

Agree! I am not really a "morning person" so I keep it really simple and focus on giving myself time to drink coffee and stare into space (I guess that is a form of meditation) before I ease into my day. While I am having coffee I use that time to catch up on news and social media that might impact my work day, and after cup #2 I am ready to hit the ground running. Thanks for the inisghts!

Hi - My alarm goes off at 5:15 am ... I also hit snooze and then say prayers before getting out of bed. I set some intention for the day. We have a 9 year English Bulldog, so my husband gets him outside and feeds him, as I get my 16 oz of water to drink. I then unload our dishwasher (probably an odd habit - but it is a ritual to me of starting the day with everything clean and ready to go!). My coffee is brewing while I do this. When coffee is ready, it is my turn with the dog. English Bulldogs require a good deal of maintenance, so I have a 15 minute cleaning routine for the dog (his face folds, paws, ears, etc...) and special treats. It is kind is special time for us in the morning. Around 6:15 am, I take my coffee into my home office and spend 30 minutes checking emails, adjusting the calendar for any changes (I am an Executive leadership coach). Then I take an hour for self - eat breakfast, shower. My work day starts at 8am . Chris

Thanks for sharing Chris. I like the idea of unloading the dishwahser as a mental way to be clean and organised throughout the day.

Paul, your post is very wise. I've greatly simplified my morning routine and my business. One of the hardest things that I've had to learn to do is to give myself "permission" to slow down, appreciate the moment, and celebrate life. I've learned to focus on fewer priorities, say "no" frequently, and I use my calendar to schedule defined "like tasks" and I keep a list of tasks that have no time associated with them for a particular day but to fit in somewhere during the week. My main goal now is to make contributions to others throughout the day (....and not based on closing a deal) and celebrate when this happens. The deals always come...

It's funny how we have to give ourselves 'permission' like you said. Rather than conforming to what society expects us to do. I 100% agree!

I don't realy have a morning routine. Hours of sleeping are essential to me. And as a mom of a almost 4 years old, every morning is different. But I like to get but before familly, have a tea and read 10 to 15min, meditate for 10 and a short yoga routine.
I feel definitively for focus after this routine but especially the sens of "time for myself".

What you talk about is as you said 'Snoozing is my way of easing into the day'. I think I read somewhere, 100% is easier than 90%. The idea being when you let your self slip into this thinking that discipline is not important or some time it is okay to let go, you tend to do this more often. What I am trying to say is that Snoozing (general theme behind this article) is a very slippery slope. I believe we need some strict routines or otherwise if we let go once in a while or don't have a routine, then we tend not be disciplined towards life in general, and it unknowingly translates into our work, relationships and other areas of our life. I strongly believe snoozing is wrong as talked about in Hal rod's Miracle morning.
I didn't mean to disregard what you said. Sometimes it is okay to not be so hard on yourself. When you say your boring morning routine, I think you are stating the obvious as the word routine in itself means mundane or not very interesting, but the points of any routines, not just morning, is to get the work done correctly.
Just wrote what popped into my mind, not very succinct.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. All very valid. Personally, I feel I'm very displined which is why I can snooze once and once only. For me it's not a slipperly slope but I can see how it might be for others.
