Our representatives in our Parliament should think of better and more beneficial contracts for mining our minerals. Let us move away from the idea of leasing the land( which contains the mineral) to doing a joint venture with the mining company. The joint.venture will have the mining company, the Ghana State and individual or corporate GHANAIANS as shareholders. The share composition will be so balanced that the mining company will be able to recoup its investment in a reasonable time frame. The ownership of the land and the basic welfare needs of the immediate community shall remain the fundamental duty of the State of Ghana. Whether the mineral will be processed or exported raw will remain the decision of Ghana. What the minister and the minerals commission put out are not fundamentally and materially different from the colonial type that we have blindly copied all these years.
