This is a very hollow comment by lawyer Kwame Jantuah. The issue here is not that those unfortunate pupils didn't know how to swim. The issue is, the authorities concerned, the policymakers, the community leaders, and even the afflicted parents failed those wards. What prevented all those people to make it COMPULSORY for anyone using a canoe, a boat, or any of those water-borne vehicles, to wear a life jacket before embarking on any form of journey on a water body? They all knew pupils cross that river every day. Was it rocket science to foresee that such a tragedy could happen? Especially at a time when excess water was being spilled from the Weija dam? What are all those people being paid huge fat salaries for? Just to sit under AC in offices?
By the way, Mr Jantuah, it is not 100% guaranteed that knowing how to swim prevents drowning. Very important parameters are the nature of the water body, its direction, the strength with which it carries you, etc. Since resignation is not in our national vocabulary, let some people AT LEAST bow their empty heads in shame!!!
